Job Description Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Location: Philadelphia, PA Reports to: CEO Job Type + Schedule: Full-time, Exempt, 32 hours per week, Hybrid, Monday-Thursday 9:00am-5:00pm Bicycle Transit Systems aims to change the world, community by community, by developing the bike share systems that are getting more people on bikes. Our team develops and delivers the bikes, stations, and software that power bike share systems across the US. Our products are designed to be engaging, intuitive, sustainable, and robust for people who want to go places by bike, whether they are riding for fun, exercise, or transportation. We also build our products to last, based on the goal that bike share, biking, and sustainable transportation become established features of the communities where we work. We are looking for passionate Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will be a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for stewarding the company’s financial health, managing enterprise risk, and enabling long-term, sustainable growth. Reporting directly to the CEO and working in close partnership with the President, the CFO plays a central role in shaping strategy, informing decision-making, and supporting the company’s expansion through disciplined financial leadership. This role is ideal for a strategic, hands-on financial leader with experience in organizations that deploy, operate, or sell manufactured products within a services-oriented or asset-based business model, and who is energized by working in a mission-driven organization that values shared prosperity and impact beyond profit. Strategic & Executive Leadership: • Partner with the CEO, President, and executive team to advance company strategy, growth initiatives, and long-range planning., • Serve as a trusted advisor, providing clear financial insights, scenario modeling, and data-driven recommendations to guide business decisions., • Translate strategic goals into actionable financial plans, forecasts, and performance metrics. Financial Planning, Forecasting & Business Development Support: • Lead company-wide financial planning, budgeting, and rolling forecasting, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities., • Develop and maintain multi-year financial models that support growth, capital planning, and operational decision-making., • Partner closely with the Business Development team to:, • Build financial forecasts and pricing models for new markets, contracts, and partnerships, • Support proposal and RFP responses, including financial assumptions, risk analysis, and return modeling, • Evaluate deal economics, contract structures, and long-term financial sustainability, • Provide post-award financial oversight to ensure proposals translate into successful, profitable execution. Operational & Departmental Oversight: • Oversee accounting and finance functions, including A/P, A/R, consolidation, FP&A, financial reporting, treasury, and merchant banking transaction systems., • Directly supervise the Controller and ensure strong internal controls and scalable financial processes., • Oversee external partners across legal, tax, audit, and insurance., • Manage Treasury operations including bank relationships, line of credit and capital financing needs to ensure ongoing cashflow to support the business., • In collaboration with the Director of People & Culture, oversee employee benefit plan renewals., • Review and negotiate contracts (leases, vehicle and equipment financing, vendor agreements, and municipal or public-sector contracts), serving as liaison to external counsel., • Implement and continuously improve financial best practices to support a growing organization. Financial Reporting & Performance Management: • Oversee the preparation and issuance of accurate, timely financial statements and forecasts., • Review and approve all externally reported financial information., • Report financial performance and outlook to the CEO, President, Board of Directors, and other key stakeholders., • Ensure financial reporting supports both operational management and strategic decision-making. Risk Management & Compliance: • Identify, assess, and mitigate key financial, operational, and contractual risks., • Monitor all open legal matters and ensure appropriate escalation and resolution., • Design, implement, and monitor effective internal control systems., • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, audit, and government reporting requirements., • Work with operating team to understand requirements and ensure compliance with grant-funded programs., • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage and lead the annual insurance renewal process., • Report material risk issues and mitigation strategies to the Board of Directors. Relationship Management: • Maintain strong, trusted relationships with banking partners, insurance brokers, legal counsel, tax advisors, and auditors., • Represent the company professionally with external stakeholders and partners. Education & Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, or Finance required., • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or audit, including senior leadership responsibility., • CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred., • Experience in organizations that purchase manufactured assets or equipment and resell, deploy, or operate them within a service-based or contract-driven business model., • Strong background in management accounting, controls, and financial modeling., • Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with NetSuite or similar financial systems and reporting tools., • Exceptional analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills., • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, lead diverse teams, and remain calm and effective under pressure., • High integrity, sound judgment, and a results-oriented mindset. Physical Requirements and Special Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • This role operates in both professional office and warehouse environments and regularly uses standard office equipment., • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, communicate clearly, and perform light physical tasks as needed., • This is a full-time position, expected to work 32 hours per week (4 days per week, 8 hours per day), with occasional nights or weekends as business needs require., • Overnight travel a few times per year and frequent local travel during the business day.
