Job Description Salary Range: $128,150- $158,303 All Applicants must comply with ITAR Requirements. US Citizens or Permanent Residents only Reporting to the Head of Machining Engineering, the Machining Engineer is responsible for providing guidance and support to all areas of Machining Operations, including production, engineering, and commercial development. The Engineer serves as a trainer and high-level contributor in the following day-to-day functions: NC programming, fixture and work holding design, first machine article production, tool design, equipment specification/installation/repair, and sales engineering. The incumbent will work closely with maintenance to keep the facility and equipment in top working order, and builds strong relationships with all departments to achieve a greater level of machining performance. This position is responsible for planning and performing first article machining, and enhancing the quality and productivity of on-going production. Critical thinking and collaboration are required to evaluate and resolve unique equipment and product issues in a demanding production environment. Major Job Duties: Core responsibilities include: • Creates and edits programs for:, • 3-axis CNC machine tools, including vertical and horizontal lathes and mills, • Multi-axis (5-axis) machine tools, including programming 3D surfacing toolpaths for bridge mills and 5-axis milling centers, • Probing cycles on all CNC machine types, • CMM inspection programming, • Forging die refurbishment on 5-axis machine centers and bridge mills, including accommodations for die bowing and other forging induced tool issues, • Responsible for programming, editing, and maintaining files on all parts manufactured on CNC equipment, • Prepares layouts using Cam Software (Mastercam) to show location of references points and cutting paths, • Calculates machine cycle times and associated factors, including speeds and feeds, size and position of cuts, • Calculates cutting forces, required HP/torque, clamping force, • Collaborates with CNC Machinists and Operators to support tool fabrication, first article development, and on-going production, • Reviews new product opportunities, advises on tool and work-holding requirements, spindle time, equipment selection, and general machinability, • Collaborates with Sales department and interfaces with customers on machining for current and prospective products, • Leads all activities for assigned first machine articles, including work holding design, tool selection, programming, first article machining and inspection, training operators for production, • Provide technical support for equipment selection and installation, • Supports commissioning on new machine tools, • Communicates with tooling vendors, tool quoting, tool design, etc., • Design, fabricate, and improve work holding solutions, including milling fixtures and lathe jaws, • Read and interpret customer and internal drawings related to checking parts, • Leads inspection of first article parts and production batch sampling, • Identify and report defects and other quality problems during the machining run, • Document/record process information or SPC data as required for the job, • Develops work instructions/procedures and publishes to ERP system, • Advises and implements advanced automation solutions, • Supports training of machinists, operators, engineers, programmers, and technicians, • Promote, explain and participate in showcasing the shop to outside public visitors, the parent company representatives and customers, • Collaborate and interface with peers and engineers to coordinate job improvements, job tryouts, die corrections and process and procedure changes, • Interface with maintenance and service providers to support preventative maintenance and repairs, • Provides recommendations for improving conditions of machines and equipment, • Identifies opportunities for enhancing operations, including quality improvement, setup and cycle time reduction, • Drive process improvement by:, • Leading safety and JSA initiatives, • Monitoring and meeting cost reduction goals, • Productivity improvements, • Downtime reduction, • Yield improvements, • Throughput improvement, • Develop and review designs for die forging and preforms intended to be machined, • Resolve conflicts with customer requirements both internal and external, • Works with minimal supervision, maintains progress on assigned projects/responsibilities, • Must be able to comply with ITAR and EAR residency requirements, • Demonstrated knowledge of die forging procedures and practices, • Proven track record of operating safe facilities., • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related field, • A minimum of 7 years of experience in a machining environment (preferably in aerospace)
