Job Description Job Title: Food Runner Classification: nonexempt Department: Restaurant Reports to: Restaurant Manager/Supervisor Job Description Summary/Objective The Food Runner delivers food, describes items, replenishes supplies and acts as a liaison between the wait staff and the kitchen staff by performing the following duties. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Communicates effectively and genuinely with guests, employees and other departments., • Maintains a friendly and caring demeanor at all times in a fast pace environment., • Shows initiative and anticipates needs in job performance., • Demonstrates teamwork, is dependable and productive., • Complies with all occupational, health and safety standards., • Able to completely describe all dishes being served including any dietary or allergy restrictions., • Delivers food to guests appropriately based on seating positions of the guest., • Ensures that all plates are garnished properly., • Offers cheese and fresh pepper to guest when appropriate., • Confirms that guests have proper silverware and condiments., • Communicates with servers and managers regarding the guest request., • Helps to maintain the cleanliness and efficiency of the kitchen by following runners side duty sheets 100% (including but not limited to):, • Cleaning and setting up of all expediting areas (shelves, prep, surfaces, walls, floors, etc.), • Stocking of all plates and utensils., • Stocking of birthday candles., • Filling of pepper mills., • Cleaning of "reach-in" refrigerators and rotating of food or beverage item., • Confirming that plate covers are clean., • Cleaning and maintaining service trays, carts, and stands., • Setting up plates with cut square brown paper., • Cuts lemons and other garnishes., • Sets up maple syrup for breakfast service., • Must be able to work in all outlets, • Customer/Client Focus, • Attention to detail, • Planning and organizational ability Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work environment This position operates in a restaurant setting. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. The employee may be exposed to hazards including, but are not limited to, cuts, slipping, tripping, falls and burns. Frequent hand washing is required. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days vary based on business needs. This includes weekends, holidays, evenings and/or overnight shifts. Required Education and Experience • A minimum of (3) years of restaurant experience., • A minimum of (2) year of experience in a hotel environment., • Culinary school diploma or degree in food service management or related field., • Must be able to work independently and exercise good judgment to resolve issues., • Guest-oriented and service-minded., • Flexible schedule. Able to work weekends and holidays., • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
