Associate / Senior Associate Electrical EngineerLocation: PlymouthThe RoleAn award-winning multidisciplinary construction consultancy is seeking an experienced Associate / Senior Associate Electrical Engineer to lead and grow the Building Services / M&E capability within one of its regional office in Plymouth.This is a strategic leadership role combining technical delivery, team leadership and business development. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the growth of the Building Services offering locally, working closely with the wider architectural, surveying and engineering teams to deliver integrated design solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects.The consultancy provides a wide range of professional services across the built environment, including architecture, structural engineering, building surveying, project management and building services engineering. Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Office Growth • Lead and develop the Building Services / M&E offering within the regional office., • Act as the technical lead for electrical engineering across projects., • Work with Directors and Partners to grow the Building Services team and service line., • Support recruitment, mentoring and development of engineers and technicians., • Represent the Building Services discipline within the office leadership structure.Technical Delivery, • Lead the electrical design and coordination of building services systems including power, lighting, life safety and specialist systems., • Deliver projects across multiple sectors including public sector, education, residential, commercial and infrastructure., • Oversee designs from feasibility through to detailed design and construction stages., • Ensure compliance with UK building regulations, industry standards and sustainability targets., • Collaborate with architecture, structural and surveying teams to deliver fully integrated project solutions.Client & Project Leadership, • Act as Project Lead or Technical Lead on multidisciplinary projects., • Maintain and develop strong relationships with clients, contractors and stakeholders., • Provide strategic technical advice to clients on energy efficiency, low carbon design and building performance., • Attend client meetings, design team meetings and site visits.Business Development, • Support and contribute to regional business growth and client development., • Assist in preparing fee proposals, tender submissions and framework bids., • Identify opportunities to expand Building Services services within the office and wider practice.RequirementsExperience, • Significant experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy environment., • Experience delivering projects across multiple RIBA work stages., • Proven ability to lead projects and mentor engineering teams., • Experience working within multi-disciplinary design environments.Technical Skills, • Strong knowledge of:, • Electrical distribution systems, • Lighting design, • Life safety systems, • Building regulations and industry standards, • Sustainable and low-carbon design principles, • Familiarity with BIM and digital design environments (e.g. Revit).Qualifications, • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering., • Working towards or already achieved Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with an appropriate institution (e.g. CIBSE or IET)., • Ability to operate at Associate or Senior Associate level, depending on experience.Personal Attributes, • Strong leadership and mentoring skills., • Commercial awareness and ability to contribute to business growth., • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities., • Collaborative mindset suited to multi-disciplinary consultancy environments.What’s on Offer, • Opportunity to lead and shape the Building Services offering within a growing office., • Work within a collaborative multi-disciplinary consultancy environment., • Diverse project portfolio across public and private sectors., • Clear pathway to Director level progression.
