Vulnerability Researcher - Gloucester, UK • Hybrid working, three days onsite per week, • Salary up to £80,000 depending on experience, • Must be eligible for DV clearance About the client Our client is a specialist organisation operating at the cutting edge of cyber security research. Their teams work on complex, high assurance challenges, combining deep technical expertise with long term research and development. Due to continued investment and growth, they are now looking to hire an experienced Security Engineer to strengthen their hardware security capability. The benefits • 37 hour working week with early finish on Fridays, • 25 days holiday plus public holidays, with options to buy, sell, or carry over leave, • Contributory pension scheme and discretionary bonus, • Enhanced sick pay and family friendly policies, • Access to a flexible benefits platform The Vulnerability Researcher role As a Vulnerability Researcher, you will carry out in depth technical investigations into hardware and embedded systems. You will explore emerging threats, design rapid prototypes, and contribute to the discovery of novel vulnerabilities and attack techniques. This role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and clear documentation of research outcomes. Key responsibilities include: • Hardware teardown, characterisation, and reverse engineering, • Data extraction from flash memory technologies including NAND, eMMC, and SPI, • Conducting side channel attacks such as timing analysis, voltage glitching, and power analysis, • Developing hardware and software prototypes to test new concepts, • Analysing network protocols and system behaviour to identify weaknesses, • Producing clear technical documentation for varied audiences Vulnerability Researcher essential skills • Experience with hardware development and prototyping, • Hands on experience extracting data from flash storage, • Understanding of side channel attack techniques, • Proficiency in C, C++, Python, or similar, • Good working knowledge of Linux environments, • Eligibility for DV clearance Desirable experience • Reverse engineering using tools such as Ghidra, IDA Pro, or Binary Ninja, • Embedded software development on ARM, AVR, or MIPS platforms, • Vulnerability research, exploit development, or mitigation bypass, • Exposure to RF systems, SDRs, or mobile network technologies To apply Please either apply through this advert or emailing me directly via robin.muirhead@searchability.com.
