Senior Project Manager (HV Transmission) Due to continued growth and expansion within the UK transmission sector, we are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of high-voltage transmission infrastructure projects supporting programmes for National Grid and other major utilities. This role will lead complex HV substation and transmission works from early-stage feasibility through to commissioning and energisation, ensuring delivery to the highest standards of safety, quality, programme performance, and regulatory compliance. Location: Hybrid - site locations across the UK, and remote working. This role is suitable for Permenant staff or Contractors Role Overview The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of complex HV substation and transmission projects, ensuring alignment with client governance frameworks, National Grid technical standards, and regulatory requirements. You will lead multidisciplinary project teams and manage interfaces between engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams to successfully deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget. This role requires a strong understanding of transmission network infrastructure and substation plant, alongside proven experience managing stakeholders across utilities, contractors, and regulatory bodies. Key Responsibilities Project Delivery Lead the full lifecycle delivery of HV transmission and substation projects from feasibility, design, and procurement through construction, commissioning, and energisation. Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with National Grid specifications, standards, and governance processes. Manage project programme, cost, scope, risk, and quality in line with client and organisational requirements. Technical Leadership Provide leadership across projects involving: AIS and GIS switchgear Protection & control systems Power transformers Underground and overhead transmission cables Substation plant and auxiliary systems Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning activities in collaboration with engineering and commissioning teams. Stakeholder & Client Management Act as the primary interface with National Grid and key client stakeholders. Provide regular reporting on programme performance, risks, cost, and delivery milestones. Coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors, and supply chain partners to ensure integrated project delivery. Health, Safety & Compliance Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and project HSE plans. Ensure works are delivered in accordance with industry best practice, statutory regulations, and client safety standards. Commercial & Risk Management Manage project budgets, forecasting, and cost control. Identify, manage, and mitigate technical, commercial, and programme risks. Support contract administration and commercial negotiations where required. Team Leadership Lead and mentor multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, planners, site managers, and subcontractors. Promote collaboration and high performance across all project stakeholders. Key Skills & Experience Proven experience delivering HV transmission or substation projects (typically 132kV-400kV) Strong understanding of electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure Experience managing projects for National Grid or major UK utilities Demonstrated success delivering projects through full lifecycle: feasibility ? energisation Knowledge of AIS/GIS switchgear, protection systems, transformers, and cable infrastructure Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams Excellent risk management, reporting, and programme management capability Desirable Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or related discipline APM / PRINCE2 / PMP project management qualification Experience working under National Grid technical standards and procedures Knowledge of CDM regulations and UK utility project governance framework Why Join Us?
