Your new companyWe are currently recruiting for a carpenter to join a friendly and welcoming team within a higher education organisation. You'll be joining a dedicated and professional Estates and Facilities Services team responsible for maintaining a vibrant, safe, and welcoming university campus. The estate includes a diverse mix of academic buildings, student accommodation, and heritage properties, offering you a varied and rewarding working environment where your skills will make a real difference to students, staff, and visitors every day.Your new roleAs Carpenter and Joiner, you'll play a key role in ensuring the functionality, safety, and overall quality of the university's built environment. You will carry out a wide range of carpentry and joinery tasks, with a particular focus on: • Fire door installation, maintenance, and compliance, • Fire stopping works to maintain building compartmentation, • Routine and reactive maintenance of locks, door furniture, and access systems, • General repairs, installations, and timber-based maintenance across the campus, • Supporting minor refurbishment and renovation projects, • Interpreting technical drawings and completing works to a high standard, • Apprenticeship in joinery or Level 2/3 Diploma/NVQ, • Fire Door Maintenance qualification, • Fire Safety and Awareness training, • At least 5 years' experience in a carpentry role within the built environment, • Strong experience with fire door and fire stopping maintenance, • Ability to safely use workshop equipment (e.g., bandsaws, table saws), • Competence in diagnosing lock faults, • Excellent attention to detail, safety awareness, and a hardworking, diligent approach, • Strong communication skills and ability to prioritise workload, • Flexibility and ability to work effectively as part of a team, • Fire door installation and fire stopping qualifications, • Asbestos awareness, • Experience maintaining workshop equipment, • Knowledge of passive fire protection, • Excellent annual leave entitlement 21 days, rising to 26 after 5 years, plus bank holidays and Christmas shutdown, • Opportunity to buy up to 35 days holiday per year, • Excellent pension scheme, • The chance to work as part of a supportive and collaborative Estates & Facilities team, • A varied role across a diverse and interesting estate, including heritage buildings, • Opportunities for ongoing professional development and training, • The satisfaction of contributing to a safe, compliant, and well-maintained university environment Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
