We’ve developed a bespoke platform called Origin, designed to enable engineers and consultants to make smarter decisions using data and insights. This means gathering, using and reusing both project design data and real-world building performance data from start to finish. This is growing to become a full ecosystem of products and platforms, and as the scope grows, we’ve reached the point at which we need someone to lead on the product strategy and deliver data-led solutions chiefly to our internal users and occasionally external clients and market engagement. The Digital team is informally split into a couple of groups: The largest team is orientated towards software development and is focused on developing our Origin ecosystem, which is essentially a suite of data-driven products: • Origin Design: A better way to manage design input and output data, integrated with industry authoring tools as well as some of our own. A single location for design information from which macro insights can be gleaned to inform future design., • Origin Operations: Our new Fabric-based platform, enabling us to ingest, clean, analyse and present data, in order to create forecasting models to predict building operational needs and to optimise the design of future buildings., • Service design: 2D authoring tools to manage early-stage layouts of services (currently horizontal distribution, will support vertical distribution and plant design in the future)., • Kaleidoscope: A machine-learning tool to make early-stage design analysis much faster than traditional methods., • SAM (Sustainability Analytical Model): A toolset for rapidly creating simulation models and outputs. The other large part of the Digital team – the Data team – focuses on data science solutions and more lightweight products that the evolution of our consulting capability with key clients, leading with data science. These include: • Cascade: A data tool for helping prioritise and manage backlogs of building improvements and maintenance by various factors for clients including cost, risk and carbon impact., • Healthcare Comparison: A tool for benchmarking NHS sites across a variety of sustainability measures., • University Benchmarking: A tool that achieves the same for UK universities.
