    Overview An established and growing organisation is seeking an Assistant Management Accountant to join its Finance team based in Chelmsford. The role involves supporting the production of monthly gross profit analysis, commission calculations, and the management reporting pack, alongside assisting with VAT returns across multiple jurisdictions. The successful candidate will also contribute to system and process improvements and provide support across the wider finance function. Working closely with senior finance colleagues, this position plays a key role in supporting ongoing business transformation and strategic objectives. Key Responsibilities Monthly Close Process Support the monthly close on the first working day Reconcile financial systems and update day books Produce and retain reconciliation reports Gross Profit Analysis Maintain and update gross profit reports Calculate GP results, ensuring alignment with contractual margins Perform variance analysis across revenue, cost of sales, and accruals VAT Compliance Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns for UK and international entities Ensure compliance with country-specific regulations and deadlines Reconcile VAT to revenue to validate accuracy prior to submission Management Accounts Assist in producing: Profit & Loss statements Departmental reports Balance Sheet Aged debt analysis Cashflow forecasts Covenant and target reporting Support the preparation of the monthly management reporting pack Assist with quarterly reporting to banking partners Balance Sheet & Control Accounts Review and reconcile control accounts on a monthly basis Monitor accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, and withholding tax Banking & Payments Review and authorise daily payments, ensuring appropriate documentation and controls Systems & Process Improvement Support financial modelling in Excel Assist with development and enhancement of financial systems and databases Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes Regulatory Reporting Support quarterly reporting requirements in line with HMRC deadlines Prepare data submissions for review by senior finance stakeholders Year-End Audit Assist in audit preparation, ensuring all accounts and reconciliations are complete Support auditors with queries and required documentation Contribute to the production of statutory accounts Additional Duties Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting Support senior finance leadership as required Please apply with your CV and details of your salary expectations and notice period.
