Estates Officer – Mechanical (Band 7) Location: NHS Trust, London Contract: 3‑month temp to perm Pay: £250 per day Role Type: Development role for an experienced senior engineer looking to progress We are supporting an NHS Trust in London with the recruitment of an Estates Officer – Mechanical (Band 7) to join the Estates & Facilities team on a 3‑month temp‑to‑perm basis. This is a pivotal senior technical position designed as a development opportunity for a highly skilled mechanical engineer ready to step into strategic estates leadership. You will take a lead role in the safe, compliant and efficient management of mechanical engineering services across a large and complex healthcare estate. The post is ideal for an engineer with strong technical capability who is looking to progress into a broader estates leadership position with long‑term development potential. Key Responsibilities • Lead maintenance, installation, testing, validation and commissioning of mechanical plant, systems and equipment, including HVAC, ventilation, medical gases, boilers, heating, cooling and water systems., • Ensure all mechanical assets follow robust maintenance regimes, including statutory inspections, PPM schedules, water safety compliance (HTM 04‑01), pressure systems testing and SOP oversight., • Lead on mechanical incident management, including failures or issues affecting critical clinical environments such as theatres, critical care and sterile services., • Support the Head of Estates in delivering a responsive, safe and professional mechanical estates service., • Work collaboratively with fellow Estates Officers and multidisciplinary teams on operational issues and project‑related tasks., • Supervise contractors, ensure safe access to plant rooms and service areas, and ensure all works comply with Trust policies, HTMs, ACOPs and mechanical safety standards., • Participate in the Estates on‑call rota, providing technical mechanical support out of hours., • Implement and monitor compliance with H&S legislation, HTMs, ACOPs, Permit to Work systems, RAMS and Trust safety policies related to mechanical services., • Conduct and update mechanical risk assessments, maintain compliance documentation and ensure safe systems of work are consistently applied., • Provide specialist technical input into capital projects, reviewing mechanical technical submissions and ensuring safety, efficiency and resilience in new builds and refurbishments.
