Mechanical (Battery Design) Engineer Location: Cambridge An innovative, high-growth technology company is developing next-generation energy storage solutions to support the global transition to electrification. Their cutting-edge approach combines advanced materials and novel system design to deliver high-performance battery technologies for future power applications. As part of their continued growth, they are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in translating breakthrough R&D into scalable, real-world products. The right candidate will have good practical experience with compression systems, thermal/gas management & electro-mechanical devices. Working within a multidisciplinary scale-up team, you’ll be involved in taking early-stage technology through to deployable systems, collaborating closely with engineering, product and commercial teams. You will support the transition from prototype to production, focusing on cell-to-module integration and system-level design. Key responsibilities: • Scale laboratory concepts into larger, application-ready formats including design, build and validation, • Develop and optimise mechanical compression systems at both cell and module level, • Define and implement thermal and gas management strategies, • Establish and improve quality control processes for components and assemblies, • Design and integrate electrical interfaces between cells and modules in collaboration with electronics teams, • Work closely with mechanical engineering teams on design alignment, prototyping and packaging strategies, • Produce and maintain detailed CAD models and engineering drawings, • Manage engineering changes, including BOMs, documentation and design traceability, • Ensure adherence to engineering standards and safe working practices About You • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience), • Proven experience taking products from prototype through to production, • Background in complex engineering environments (battery or energy storage experience beneficial but not essential), • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) across metal and plastic components, • Proficient in CAD, engineering drawings and tolerance analysis, • Experience delivering projects in fast-paced, evolving environments, • Able to solve problems effectively in ambiguous or developing technical settings, • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly document and share technical information, • Collaborative, proactive and comfortable working cross-functionally Sounds good, how do I apply? • Option 1: Click the apply button, don't worry if you don't have an up-to-date CV, we can discuss whatever you have to hand., • Option 2: Find Morgan Veness on LinkedIn and drop me a message or connection request
