Fawley Refinery, HampshireRole Overvie wWe are seeking a Junior Civil / Structural Engine er to join the Engineering Services team supporting refinery and chemical plant operations at Fawley. This role is suited to an early-career engineer with a solid technical foundation an d at least 3 years of relevant experien ce, looking to further develop within an operating oil refinery environment.The role involves supporting plant operations, inspections, maintenance, and project delivery, working under the guidance of senior engineers in a safety-critical, highly regulated setting.Key ResponsibilitiesPlant Engineering & Operations SupportProvide civil and structural engineering support to daily refinery operations, including plant modifications, upgrades, repairs, and new constructionAssist with structural inspections , condition assessments, and evaluations of plant facilitiesSupport civil/structural design and construction activities to ensure compliance with company standards, industry codes, and UK regulationsSupport operational teams with risk management activities in line with Operation Integrity Management System (OIMS) requirementsEngineering Management & Change ControlReview and support Management of Change (MoC) documentation, engineering specifications, and design appraisalsAssist in interpreting and applying company practices and industry standards to refinery facilitiesSupport site reliability initiatives, including incident investigations, risk assessments, and risk-based work selectionProjects & Continuous ImprovementProvide civil/structural engineering input to sustaining and capital projects , from concept through executionAssist with development of scopes of work, technical specifications, and contractor documentationSupport contractor activities and review engineering deliverables under supervisionContribute to continuous improvement of plant reliability, safety, and engineering work practicesQualifications & ExperienceRequiredBSc in Civil or Structural Engineering (MSc preferred)Minimum of 3 years professional experience , preferably within heavy industry, oil & gas, petrochemical facilities, power generation, or an engineering consultancy supporting such sectorsSolid technical and analytical skills with the ability to assess and compare engineering solutionsFamiliarity with structural analysis and design principlesStrong written and verbal communication skills in EnglishAbility to work effectively in a safety-critical industrial environmentPersonal AttributesSelf-motivated with a focus on delivering quality engineering outputsStrong teamwork and collaboration skillsProactive, logical approach to problem-solvingClear commitment to safety, engineering integrity, and best practicePreferred Knowledge & SkillsExperience or working knowledge in the following areas is desirable:Structural design and analysis of steel and reinforced concrete structuresFoundations and pile designStructural inspection, condition assessment, and rehabilitationBasic geotechnical engineering principlesCivil infrastructure (roads, drainage, sewers, underground structures)Industrial buildings, stacks, chimneys, and rotating equipment foundationsFamiliarity with structural analysis and design softwareWhat We OfferDevelopment within an operating oil refinery environmentExposure to complex industrial assets and real-world engineering challengesOngoing mentoring and technical support from senior engineersStrong safety culture with a focus on long-term asset integrityCompany InformationAltrad is an international leader in the provision of industrial services, generating high-added value solutions principally for the Oil & Gas, Energy, Power Generation, Process, Environment and Construction sectors.
