Ethos is an environmental planning consultancy based in the world heritage city of Bath and working across the UK. We are a multi-disciplinary consultancy providing decision-making in relation to planning with a focus on ecology, green space, and biodiversity net gain. We are looking for a Consultant Ecologist to join our expanding ecology team, delivering high-quality ecological fieldwork, assessments, and client-facing support across a diverse range of projects. The role will be based at our Bath office. Key Responsibilities What you’ll be doing Surveys & Fieldwork • Assist with complex UK Habitat Classification surveys and condition assessments, • Lead simple UK Habitat Classification surveys, • Support habitat surveys including Hedgerow Regulations and NVC surveys, • Assist with protected species surveys (GCN, bats, reptiles, dormouse, birds, otter, water vole), • GIS mapping of habitats and ecological features, • Prepare Biodiversity Net Gain assessments using DEFRA metrics and similar tools, • Prepare survey reports, licence applications, and supporting documents, • Collate and interpret ecological desk study data, • Analyse species data, including bat call interpretation, • Manage small-scale projects, • Support Project Managers with client communications, • Assist with preparing quotes and commercial project processes Skills, Knowledge & Expertise What you’ll bring • Minimum 3 years’ consultancy experience (including experience in most of the aforementioned tasks), • Relevant degree or equivalent experience, • Eligible for Associate membership of CIEEM, • Strong organisational and analytical skills, • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, • Basic GIS knowledge, • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, • Enthusiasm and initiative for learning, • Hold a full UK driving licence Why join us • Be part of a group committed to professional excellence and environmental stewardship, • Access to group-wide learning programmes, career progression pathways, and specialist networks
