About this Role Milk Education are working in partnership with a generic special needs school for KS2 – KS5 students based in central/east Leeds. All learners have special learning needs, and some have physical/medical & behavioural difficulties. Are you passionate about wanting to join a team who want to make a difference to learner’s lives? The school based are seeking level 1 teaching assistants to work within their Communication, Independence and Post 16 based pathways. The school caters for students with a range of SEN, mainly those with ASC, SLD, Communication & Language needs – some which are associated with SEMH. What the school require: • An enthusiastic & proactive individual who are willing to learn, support teaching and learning and address the personal needs of their learners, • You will need to be flexible and adaptable, a good communicator, cheerful, calm and be able to work as part of our team, • Prior experience of working with SEN learners is preferably – ideally ASC, SLD, SEMH, • Strong classroom communication strategies and good behaviour support with a nurturing and aspirational approach. Key Responsibilities of the role: • Providing 1:1 and small-group academic and emotional support., • To attend to the learners’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters., • Support pupils with emotional regulation, engagement, and sensory needs (full training provided)., • Supporting learners who may have complex medical needs and who may need medical support, training will be provided., • Supporting learners who require additional support with communication, including those learners with a mechanical system of communication. The post holder may also be required to use British Sign Language and/or Makaton, (a form of sign language for SEN learners) if so, training will be provided, • To establish good relationships with learners, acting as a role model, being aware of, and responding appropriately to individual needs. Further details: • Start date – ASAP or 1st December 2025 / 5th January 2026, • Working hours – 8.30 – 3.30pm & Full time (Monday – Friday), • Contract type – Temporary initially – Permanent following a successful probationary period & interview
