Team Leader – Children’s Residential Care (Maternity Cover) Work Location: Stoke-on-Trent Salary: £35,366.93 Shift: 2 on – 4 off (including sleep-ins) Reports to: Registered Manager About the Role Make a Real Difference Every Day This role offers the opportunity to work within a residential children’s home supporting young people aged 8 to 25 with complex needs, trauma backgrounds, and emotional or behavioural challenges. The service focuses on providing a stable, safe, and nurturing environment where young people can develop, build resilience, and work towards positive futures. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced residential childcare professional to take the next step into a Team Leader position, supporting both young people and staff while maintaining high standards of care. Your Role • Lead shifts and support the team to deliver high-quality care in line with individual care plans, • Provide supervision, guidance, and support to residential care staff, • Oversee and contribute to the development and review of care plans, ensuring consistent trauma-informed care, • Support the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager with the daily running of the home, • Promote safeguarding and ensure procedures are followed and concerns addressed appropriately, • Build strong relationships with professionals, families, and external agencies, • Support the training, mentoring, and development of staff Essential • Minimum 1 year experience in residential childcare, • Understanding of child development and trauma-informed practice, • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or working towards), • Strong planning, organisation, and communication skills, • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and legal frameworks, • Ability to lead by example and maintain professional boundaries, • Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), • Resilient, adaptable, and calm under pressure, • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and sleep-ins, • Level 5 Leadership & Management qualification, • Previous supervisory or management experience, • New starter bonus up to £1,000 for Level 3 qualified applicants, • Support with Level 3 and Level 5 qualifications, • Qualification completion bonuses, • Pension auto-enrolment, • Health cashback scheme, • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme, • Retail discounts and staff perks, • Long service rewards, • Refer-a-friend scheme All roles are subject to enhanced DBS checks and pre-employment screening as part of safeguarding procedures.
