Job Description NSC Staffing is seeking experienced Marine Carpenters for long-term shipyard work in Jacksonville, FL. This role performs critical carpentry and fabrication tasks to support vessel repairs, dry dock operations, and structural protection of ship systems. Candidates must be able to work independently, follow complex specifications, and safely operate in a marine industrial environment. Position Overview The Marine Carpenter is responsible for constructing, installing, repairing, and fabricating wood and structural components used to protect ship equipment and support dry dock operations. Work is performed aboard vessels, inside the shipyard, on scaffolding, and in confined spaces. This position requires strong blueprint interpretation skills, marine carpentry knowledge, and the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision. Key Responsibilities • Build, install, and repair wooden structures, equipment covers, platforms, and support framing, • Fabricate products from drawings, blueprints, sketches, and owner specifications, • Set up and outfit dry docks with docking blocks and ship support structures, • Operate and maintain carpentry shop tools, power tools, and hand tools, • Measure, cut, layout, and assemble materials using both US standard and metric systems, • Inspect work pieces, verify dimensions, and provide required OQE documentation, • Follow all LOTO, safety, and hot work procedures, • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area, • Communicate hazards, unexpected conditions, and corrective actions to supervisors, • Complete all assigned tasks, daily assignments, and documentation accurately, • Work in confined spaces, on scaffolding, ladders, ramps, and elevated surfaces Required Qualifications • 6+ years of marine carpentry or shipyard carpentry experience, • High school diploma, GED, or vocational school equivalent, • Ability to interpret blueprints, diagrams, job specifications, and written instructions, • Strong understanding of marine carpentry, joiner work, and dry dock blocking, • Proficient with power tools, saws, sanders, drills, and hand tools, • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions & decimals, • Capable of wearing full PPE including respirators, harnesses, flotation gear, etc., • Able to produce quality work and required OQE documentation, • Must be DBIDS eligible Work Environment • Shipyard environment: exposure to heat, cold, humidity, rain, loud noise, • Work inside vessels with low light, smoke, and limited ventilation, • Work at heights above 12 ft., in confined spaces, or on mechanical lifts, • Frequent exposure to moving machinery, falling objects, and heavy equipment Physical Demands • Lift/push/pull 50–100 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, • Stand 2–3 hours, walk, climb, kneel, crawl, bend, • Access 18" x 36" openings and confined spaces, • Work at multiple body positions (waist, overhead, extended reach), • Hand strength and coordination to operate tools safely Apply Today or Call 904-222-3779
