American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Kansas City, Missouri. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 04/20/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Apr 20, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • 26-bed PCU/SICC unit within a 456-bed tertiary care, Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, • Cares for thoracic and vascular surgery patients immediately post-operatively and post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patients transferred out of the CVICU, • Patient population includes post-op CABG, valve replacement (AVR, MVR, TVR), aortic aneurysm repair, esophagectomy, thoracotomy/VATS, carotid endarterectomy, TAVR, and lower extremity bypass/amputation cases, • Complex patient population with multiple co-morbidities including advanced heart failure, end-stage renal disease, and diabetes, • Patient ratio is 1:4, • Charting via Epic, • Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45–07:15, • 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period (combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), • Regular floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required, • No on-call requirements, • Parking is freeRequirements, • Active MO or compact RN license currently in hand; both Kansas and Missouri licenses (or compact equivalent) must be in hand prior to consideration, as floating between facilities may require licensure in both states, • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required, • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown specialty experience required, • At least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months, with no gap in employment greater than 90 days in the past year, • Proficiency required in: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, temporary and permanent pacemakers (including epicardial wires), pre/post cardiac cath and cardiac surgery care, TAVR, TR Band, and titration of insulin, cardiac, and vasoactive drips, • Experience required with central venous access (Cordis, TLC, CVAD, PICC), peripheral and central line care, and IV insertion, • Skills required in chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), wound care/wound vac, tracheostomy management, and blood product administration (PRBCs, FFP, platelets), • Experience with epidural/PCA pain management, heparin protocols, feeding tube care, and isolation precautions, • 2 professional references required: one must be at supervisor level or above, the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year, • SSN required for considerationAdditional Information, • Provides direct post-operative nursing care to cardiothoracic and vascular surgery patients, including management of chest tubes, epicardial wires, multiple simultaneous IV drips, central venous access, wound vacs, and tracheostomies, • Charge RN assignments and holiday coverage may be required as needed, • Pre-employment modules are required as part of onboarding compliance (approximately 10–15 hours total, completed prior to start), • Navy scrubs required, • RTO is capped at 7 days for the duration of the contract, • Travel partners are not accepted for this position, • First-time travelers are welcome to apply, • Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are considered local and are not eligible for this position With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
