Job Description Job Title: Quality Inspector Job Description The Quality Inspector plays a key role in ensuring that aircraft, engines, avionics, and related components meet rigorous quality and safety standards in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS). This position uses established inspection standards, principles, and techniques to examine, evaluate, and document objective evidence of product conformity. Working in an aircraft hangar environment, the Quality Inspector performs inspections throughout the manufacturing and maintenance process, supports root cause and corrective action activities, and collaborates closely with engineering, production, and management teams to maintain high levels of quality and airworthiness. Responsibilities • Perform scheduled inspections to ensure the quality of workmanship meets standard industry practices and complies with Manufacturing (MFG) Work Instructions., • Conduct preliminary, in‑progress, and final inspections on all articles processed, including aircraft structures, engines, avionics, and components., • Verify that MFG records, work order reports, and forms are completed accurately before releasing components and vehicles for return to service., • Inspect parts and assemblies for defects, damage, proper identification, and correct dimensions using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring devices., • Follow and document complex processes, accurately input data, and record inspection results in the appropriate systems., • Apply inspection methods, techniques, and equipment specific to the specialty area to determine quality and airworthiness in alignment with safety protocols., • Communicate clearly in both written and verbal formats with engineering, management, and production personnel to convey product acceptance criteria and inspection results., • Generate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Non-Routine Items (NRIs) as required to document and track quality issues., • Perform receiving inspection duties for all incoming materials to ensure conformance with specifications and documentation requirements., • Oversee proper tagging and identification of all parts and components so that rejected or non‑repairable parts are clearly marked, quarantined, and rendered unusable., • Conduct work in a manner that enhances personal and team health and safety, supports product safety, and promotes risk reduction., • Participate openly in safety-related event investigations, promptly report workplace hazards, and make suggestions for hazard control and process improvement., • Cooperate and contribute to the overall success of the local Safety program and consistently support safety initiatives., • Continuously practice safe work behaviors and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) awareness and prevention, strictly adhering to regulatory protocols and rules., • Conduct technical investigations to support quality processes and assist with Root Cause Corrective Action activities., • Follow established directions and guidelines from team leaders to support collaboration across teams and ensure project completion., • Work on moderately difficult quality control assignments, using sound judgment to resolve issues and make recommendations for improvements., • Ensure the quality and efficiency of installations, including performing troubleshooting and, when needed, providing guidance on troubleshooting processes and concepts., • High School Diploma or equivalent., • Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License., • Minimum of five years of experience in a related field, which may include aerospace parts and components and hands‑on experience in manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), or an airline environment, with emphasis on prototype aircraft and material/logistics operations., • Knowledge of AS9100 and other relevant aerospace industry standards and regulations., • In-depth understanding of inspection techniques and quality issues associated with manufacturing, logistics, and warehouse operations., • Experience with nonconforming material control processes and documentation., • Ability to use precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers for detailed inspections., • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and models in paper or digital formats., • Demonstrated ability to use computer applications to follow manufacturing work instructions and record inspection data., • Specific vision abilities (corrected or uncorrected), including color perception, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to detect small flaws or defects., • Ability to comply with safety regulations and actively promote a safe working environment., • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as part of routine inspection and handling tasks., • Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey inspection findings and acceptance criteria., • Proven hands-on inspection experience in the aerospace industry using a variety of precision measurement tools., • Experience in quality control, quality assurance, and quality inspection within aerospace or related industries., • Familiarity with quality inspection of engines, avionics, aircraft structures, and associated components., • Basic math skills to support measurement, tolerance calculations, and data interpretation., • Technical writing skills to create clear inspection reports, NCRs, and documentation., • Knowledge of current quality control practices and a willingness to learn and apply cutting-edge spacecraft quality techniques., • Ability to collaborate effectively on quality inspection projects with fellow technicians and interdepartmental teams to achieve goals and solve problems., • Ability to communicate in a timely, respectful manner and remain open to other ideas and feedback., • Strong safety-focused mindset, including good housekeeping practices, tool control, and proper handling of hazardous materials and chemicals., • Experience supporting root cause and corrective action processes and technical investigations. Work Environment This role is fully onsite in an aircraft hangar environment with temperature control; however, humidity levels may be elevated due to the nature of the aircraft parts and processes. Work is hands-on around aircraft structures, engines, avionics, and related components, using precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers, as well as computer systems for work instructions and data entry. Shifts follow a 4/10 schedule, with options that may include Monday through Thursday day shift (6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.), Monday through Thursday night shift (4:00 p.m. – 2:30 a.m.), Thursday through Sunday day shift (6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.), or Thursday through Sunday night shift (4:00 p.m. – 2:30 a.m.), depending on business needs. Overtime may be possible but is not guaranteed. The work environment emphasizes strong safety practices, FOD awareness, good housekeeping, and proper handling of tools, materials, and chemicals, with a focus on maintaining a clean, organized, and safety-conscious hangar setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Mesa, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr.
