Job Description Date posted: March 31, 2026 Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour Job description: Experienced Veterinary Assistant or Technician – Full Time Paw Partners Veterinary Hospital – Locally Owned, Brand New Facility Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and experienced Veterinary Assistant/Technician to join our brand new, locally owned veterinary clinic. The ideal candidate will support our veterinarians in providing high-quality medical care while ensuring smooth and efficient clinic operations. This role involves hands-on patient care, technical procedures, anesthesia support, client communication, and contributing to a positive experience for pets and their families. Prior veterinary experience is required, including proficiency with vaccines, common medications, blood draws, catheter placement, and anesthesia monitoring. Primary Job Responsibilities Technical Duties – 65% • Assist veterinarians with examinations, sedation, anesthesia, and surgical/dental procedures, ensuring proper restraint and patient care., • Obtain patient histories, weights, and vital signs; accurately update medical records and treatment plans., • Collect and process laboratory samples; perform in-house diagnostics (hematology, urinalysis, biochemistry, SNAP tests) and prepare reference lab submissions., • Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia patients, including intubation, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and pain management., • Prepare surgery suites and instruments; maintain aseptic technique and sterilization protocols., • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot monitoring equipment, anesthetic machines, oxygen lines, and waste gas scavenging systems., • Take and submit radiographs with proper positioning; assist with ultrasound and ECG diagnostics., • Provide comprehensive dental support including cleaning, scaling, polishing, charting, radiographs, and surgical assistance during extractions., • Administer medications, vaccines, and injections; accurately fill prescriptions using double-sign verification., • Communicate treatment plans, post-operative care instructions, and preventive health recommendations to clients., • Perform client callbacks and support veterinarians during emergency cases., • Provide compassionate, professional assistance during euthanasia procedures., • Log controlled substances, assist with inventory counts, and unpack/store medical supplies per SOP., • Maintain accurate medical records; create estimates/treatment plans; schedule appointments; process payments; assist CSRs as needed., • Attend staff meetings and continuing education sessions; remain proficient in Shephard., • Maintain clean, organized exam rooms, treatment areas, and the surgery suite. Full-Time: • 37 hours per week, • Four days/week - MUST BE AVAILABLE Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, • 10-hour shifts Education • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to changing priorities., • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills., • Ability to remain calm, composed, and efficient under pressure., • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a focus on compassion and clarity., • Strong command of English grammar and medical documentation standards., • Familiarity with patient receiving, treatment workflows, scheduling, supply ordering, and lab coordination., • Skilled in using, cleaning, and storing veterinary instruments and equipment., • Knowledge of sterilization techniques and maintenance of diagnostic/surgical tools., • Understanding of client service principles (needs assessment, quality standards, satisfaction)., • Thorough knowledge of hospital policies and professional standards. This position requires strong medical knowledge, attention to detail, sound decision-making, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must be able to lift 40+ lbs, restrain animals of all sizes, bend/stoop/stand for extended periods, and use fine motor skills for lab and medical equipment. Quick responses during emergencies and consistent stamina are essential.
