Job DescriptionJob Title: Pipefitter – Industrial Brazing (Brazer) Job Description This role focuses on assembling and brazing large diameter copper and steel piping systems used in natural gas, chiller, and industrial HVAC applications. You will perform heavy industrial torch brazing on piping ranging from 1 inch to 4 inches in diameter, working on complex joints in all positions and at elevated, tightly controlled temperatures. The position involves building and joining components such as piping, coils, compressors, valves, and fittings, ensuring high structural integrity and leak-free performance through rigorous testing and inspection. Responsibilities • Perform torch brazing on piping systems ranging from 1 inch to 4 inches in diameter for natural gas, chiller, and industrial HVAC applications., • Braze copper to copper, copper to steel, and copper to brass joints with consistent quality and structural integrity., • Assemble and join copper, steel, and alloy components used in chillers and HVAC systems, following technical drawings and piping schematics., • Conduct brazing operations on piping, coils, compressors, valves, and fittings, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up., • Complete brazed joints in multiple positions, including uphill, downhill, and horizontal configurations., • Heat joints to controlled brazing temperatures, typically between 600°ree;C and 900°ree;C (1,100°ree;F–1,650°ree;F), based on base metals and filler materials., • Apply silver-based and copper phosphorus filler alloys with melting ranges between 620°ree;C and 780°ree;C (1,150°ree;F–1,435°ree;F) to achieve proper flow and penetration., • Monitor flame characteristics and heat distribution to promote optimal filler flow and prevent overheating, oxidation, or distortion of components., • Use continuous nitrogen purging during brazing operations to prevent internal oxidation and carbon buildup inside piping systems., • Prepare joints by cleaning, fitting, and aligning components prior to heating to ensure high-quality brazed connections., • Inspect brazed joints visually and mechanically to verify proper filler flow, penetration, and overall structural integrity., • Perform pressure and leak testing using approved methods such as nitrogen testing and soap solution to confirm leak-free joints., • Repair defective joints and perform controlled rework following approved procedures and quality standards., • Maintain torches, regulators, temperature indicators, and gas supply systems to ensure safe and reliable operation., • Follow hot work permits, fire prevention protocols, and personal protective equipment requirements at all times., • Record process parameters, including temperatures and brazing conditions, and report deviations from approved ranges., • Participate in quality and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes, safety, and product performance., • Meet production deadlines, including working mandatory overtime as required by the schedule., • Adhere to all relevant pressure equipment and piping codes related to design, fabrication, welding/brazing, inspection, and testing.Essential Skills, • Proven experience as a Pipefitter, TIG Welder, or Industrial Brazing Technician in heavy industrial environments., • Hands-on experience with heavy industrial torch brazing, including high-temperature control and complex joint configurations., • Experience working with larger diameter pipe (1 inch to 4 inches); proficiency with either small or large pipe is acceptable., • Ability to braze copper to copper, copper to steel, and copper to brass joints consistently and safely., • Demonstrated ability to achieve and control industrial brazing temperatures in the 600°ree;C–900°ree;C (1,100°ree;F–1,650°ree;F) range., • Capability to perform brazing in all joint positions, including uphill, downhill, and horizontal orientations., • Strong understanding of heat control, joint preparation, and filler material selection for different base metals and applications., • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and piping schematics accurately., • Familiarity with applicable pressure equipment and piping codes governing design, fabrication, welding/brazing, inspection, and testing., • Ability to successfully complete a braze test as part of the qualification process., • Familiarity with oxy-acetylene gas and oxy-propane torches for brazing operations., • Physical ability to lift up to 45 pounds and stand for the majority of the workday., • Comfort with using hand tools, power tools, and saws in a manufacturing environment.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Welding or brazing technical training or completion of a brazing or welding school program is preferred., • Background in manufacturing, pipefitting, plumbing, or industrial assembly is advantageous., • Experience with blueprint reading and working from detailed manufacturing documentation., • Strong manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination for precise torch and filler control., • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, and climb portable ladders as required in daily tasks., • Commitment to following safety procedures, hot work permits, and use of personal protective equipment., • Experience participating in quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in an air-conditioned, modern manufacturing facility equipped with industry 4.0 technology in Mesa, Arizona. The primary schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with mandatory overtime on Fridays as needed to meet production deadlines; positions are available on both first and second shifts. The environment involves regular use of torches, regulators, gas supply systems, hand tools, power tools, and saws, as well as working around industrial HVAC and chiller equipment. Physical demands include lifting and moving up to 45 pounds, standing and walking for extended periods, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing portable ladders. Good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination are required for precise brazing work. Personal protective equipment is required in accordance with hot work and safety protocols. The dress code consists of steel-toe footwear, jeans or work pants, and a T-shirt or polo suitable for an industrial manufacturing setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mesa, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $40.00/hr.
