The DIO will provide strategic leadership and oversight of our growing Graduate Medical Education (GME) program in West Columbia, South Carolina. This position plays a critical role in maintaining institutional accreditation, fostering excellence in educating residents & fellows, and guiding the continued expansion of our residency and fellowship programs. As DIO, you will serve as the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s (ACGME) designated official for Lexington Health, with authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of all GME programs sponsored by the institution. GME AT LEXINGTON HEALTH Lexington Health is a fully accredited sponsoring institution offering hands-on clinical experiences. In 2023, Lexington Health welcomed its inaugural class of Family Medicine residents and opened a state-of-the-art 48,000 sq. ft. GME building designed to support multiple residency specialties. You’ll be joining a respected health system that values medical education as a strategic priority and offers the infrastructure, institutional support, and culture to match. • Internal Medicine Residency, • Family Medicine Residency, • Clinical Informatics Fellowship, • Clinical Research, • Nursing Education, • Professional Training MISSION OF THE DIO • Serve as chair of the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), • Ensure institutional and programmatic compliance with all ACGME requirements, • Guide the development of new programs and lead ACGME accreditation efforts, • Provide support and mentorship to program directors, associate program directors, faculty, and coordinators, • Represent GME interests on the Medical Executive Committee, • Collaborate with medical school affiliates and internal stakeholders to advance the GME mission, • Lead educational workshops, mock site visits, and policy development WHERE YOU’LL WORK Lexington Health is a comprehensive network of care that includes six community medical and urgent care centers, nearly 80 physician practices, more than 9,000 health care professionals and Lexington Medical Center, a 607-bed teaching hospital in West Columbia, South Carolina–located near the Congaree River and downtown Columbia, offering panoramic views of the area. KEY QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES OF THE DIO • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) required., • Advanced degree in Education or Healthcare preferred (e.g. Masters or PhD in Education or Healthcare)., • Must possess the documented educational and administrative abilities necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the role and to achieve the goals and objectives of the program., • Five (5) to Seven (7) years as a leader in graduate medical education (i.e., successfully holding a position as a GME Program Director, Director of Medical Education, Chief Academic Officer, or Designated Institutional Official) with an ACGME accredited training program(s) required., • Must maintain an unrestricted license to practice medicine by the State of South Carolina.
