Job DescriptionSafety & Risk DirectorLocation: San Francisco Bay Area, CASalary Range: $190,000 – $250,000 annually, plus comprehensive benefits package, bonus potential, vehicle allowance, and retirement benefits. Position SummaryThe Safety & Risk Director is responsible for leading and continuously improving the company's safety, health, risk management, and insurance programs across all operations. This position serves as a strategic partner to executive leadership, operations, project management, field leadership, customers, insurance carriers, brokers, legal counsel, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance, reduce risk exposure, and promote a proactive safety culture.The Safety & Risk Director will oversee all aspects of safety compliance, incident management, claims administration, insurance programs, training initiatives, fleet safety, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation strategies while supporting the company's commitment to employee safety and operational excellence. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSafety Leadership & Culture • Work closely with Group Leaders, Project Managers, Superintendents, and Field Leaders to promote and sustain a proactive safety culture throughout the organization., • Continuously develop and clearly communicate the company's safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures., • Collaborate with Operations, Project Management, and executive leadership to drive employee engagement and accountability in safety performance., • Conduct and participate in customer-requested safety meetings and presentations., • Collaborate with General Contractors and customers on electrical safety presentations and site-specific safety initiatives.Safety Compliance & Program Administration, • Maintain and update the Company's Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) to ensure compliance with current OSHA regulations and industry best practices., • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific safety programs and project safety plans based on project scope and customer requirements., • Build, update, and communicate company safety policies and procedures as required., • Maintain OSHA compliance programs and ensure all regulatory requirements are met., • Serve as the primary point of contact for OSHA, regulatory agencies, auditors, and external safety organizations., • Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure field leadership and project teams have access to current documentation.Field Safety Oversight, • Review all jobsite inspections, audits, observations, and safety reports to identify hazards and ensure compliance with company and customer requirements., • Analyze inspection findings, incident trends, and field observations to develop preventive and corrective actions., • Develop and implement corrective action plans with Superintendents, Project Managers, and Operations personnel., • Travel to construction sites and project locations to conduct safety assessments, support field teams, and ensure adherence to health and safety protocols., • Track and resolve field employee documentation issues related to:, • Learning Management System (LMS) requirements, • Methods of Procedure (MOPs), • Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), • Incident reporting, • Regulatory complianceIncident Management & Claims Administration, • Lead all incident investigations and ensure proper reporting, documentation, and follow-up actions., • Ensure employees and involved parties receive appropriate guidance, procedures, and resources following incidents or injuries., • Collect and document all necessary information to support insurance, legal, medical, and regulatory requirements., • Manage all Workers' Compensation, Vehicle, Property, General Liability, and other insurance claims., • Oversee the complete claims management process from initial reporting through claim closure., • Develop and implement claim mitigation strategies in partnership with operations, insurance carriers, brokers, TPAs, and legal counsel., • Collaborate with Operations to develop and manage return-to-work programs for injured employees., • Continuously monitor open claims and drive favorable claim resolution outcomes.Risk Management & Insurance Programs, • Assess current and emerging operational risks and implement strategies to reduce liability exposure., • Develop and execute risk reduction programs designed to improve safety performance and reduce losses., • Maintain strong working relationships with insurance brokers, carriers, captive insurance partners, TPAs, and risk management consultants., • Participate in regular claims reviews, strategy meetings, and renewal discussions., • Oversee administration of the Company's captive insurance program., • Monitor and direct Third-Party Administrators (TPAs) regarding claims handling practices and claim resolution strategies., • Collaborate with legal counsel and safety professionals on accident investigations, litigation support, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials., • Represent the Company in legal proceedings, insurance investigations, and risk management reviews as necessary.Training, Reporting & Documentation, • Maintain records and tracking systems for:, • Workers' Compensation claims, • Incident reporting, • Insurance reporting, • OSHA compliance, • Employee training, • Vendor and customer-required certifications, • Track safety performance metrics, including:, • Incident rates, • Near-miss reports, • OSHA recordables, • Training completion rates, • Leading and lagging indicators, • Develop safety dashboards, reports, and performance metrics utilizing Safety Plus and other reporting systems., • Provide regular safety and risk management reports to executive leadership.Safety Equipment & Compliance Programs, • Maintain records and compliance documentation for all safety equipment and testing requirements., • Oversee inspection, certification, maintenance, and tracking of:, • Arc Flash PPE, • Gas Monitors, • Fall Protection Equipment, • Confined Space Equipment, • AED Programs, • Electrical Testing Equipment and Multimeters, • Other safety-critical equipment, • Coordinate delivery, pickup, calibration, testing, and certification services with approved vendors and laboratories., • Maintain adequate inventory levels of PPE and safety equipment for field operations.Fleet Safety & Vehicle Risk Management, • Administer the company's vehicle safety and monitoring programs, including VPS vehicle monitoring systems., • Maintain fleet safety records and coordinate installation, maintenance, and reporting requirements., • Partner with Operations and vendors to improve driver safety performance and fleet compliance., • Investigate vehicle incidents and oversee associated claims management processes.Customer & Vendor Relations, • Communicate regularly with customers, insurance representatives, brokers, carriers, TPAs, and safety consultants regarding safety, claims, and compliance matters., • Attend customer-requested meetings and project safety reviews., • Support customer prequalification efforts and respond to safety-related information requests., • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with key stakeholders.QualificationsEducation & Experience, • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Risk Management, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred., • Minimum 10 years of progressive safety leadership experience within electrical contracting, construction, or industrial environments., • Minimum 5 years of experience managing workers' compensation, liability claims, insurance programs, and risk management initiatives., • Experience working with captive insurance programs and Third-Party Administrators (TPAs) preferred.Certifications Preferred, • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), • OSHA 30-Hour Construction, • Associate in Risk Management (ARM), • Certified Risk Manager (CRM), • First Aid/CPR/AED CertificationKnowledge, Skills & Abilities, • Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, Cal/OSHA standards, and construction safety requirements., • Strong understanding of workers' compensation, liability claims, insurance administration, and risk management principles., • Experience developing and implementing company-wide safety programs., • Excellent investigation, analytical, and problem-solving skills., • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building abilities., • Experience with safety management systems, reporting platforms, and data analytics., • Ability to influence organizational culture and drive continuous improvement., • Proficiency with Microsoft
