ABOUT THE JOB The HR Generalist supports all aspects of HR operations, including recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and HR systems management. A highly visible representative of The Wallis, the HR Generalist is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships, serving as a business partner to managers, and a resource to all staff. The ideal candidate is personable, highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of handling confidential information with discretion. This role demands excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills, as well as technical knowledge of HR competencies. The candidate should be proactive, flexible, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. WHAT YOU’LL DO _ Responsibilities for the HR Generalist include, but are not limited to: ‘ Recruitment & Talent Attraction: • Support recruitment strategies and efforts for all departments: includes talent attraction and acquisition, interview scheduling, interviews & selection, reference checks, background checks and job offer letters as needed;, • Create or edit job descriptions, as needed. Update physical requirements for job descriptions, as needed;, • Provide employee orientation, and on-boarding, and training including harassment prevention training, and new hire orientation for employees;, • Responsible to create and maintain orientation documents, • Send Benefits Enrollment Information (Medical, Dental, Vision and 401(k) to all eligible employees post new-hire;, • Process/Enter benefits deductions withholdings in the HRIS system;, • Working with Finance, manage, maintain and improve the Human Resources Information System to ensure all records and personnel information is compliant and complete and employees are classified and paid correctly;, • HRIS Data Entry for all employees including new hires (self-onboarding) and activation, employment eligibility verification (i-9s);, • Manage life cycle of on-call stagehands (hiring, employment eligibility, activate and de-activate profiles);, • Perform a rotation (monthly) of various HR audits to ensure annual audits of each topic: i-9, PTO accruals, Job Description Audit (including signed copies), Physical Requirements, signed Policy & Handbook Acknowledgements/Arbitration agreements in payroll system;Training & Professional Development:, • Track development trainings for all staff. File certificates in employee files. Track compliance trainings and notify employees when they need to renew or new employees within six months of hire to complete compliance trainings;, • Deliver Employee trainings for on-boarding (i.e. payroll system, time card and meal breaks, new hire orientation, etc.);Employee Relations:, • Participate in investigations as needed under guidance of the Director of Human Resources, when needed;Compensation:, • Process Invoices for HR expenses with HR Director written approval;, • Manage expense reports for HR, including credit card reconciliation;, • Participate in the planning of team activities & team-building activities;, • 5+ years of experience working in Human Resources, with at least 2 years of professional experience in Human Resources role in a Generalist capacity,, • Strong understanding of the recruiting process, benefits administration, employee relations and other HR functions;, • Thorough knowledge of current federal and state employment laws and regulations including, but not limited to: CA wage and hour laws, ADA, FMLA/CFRA leave laws, OSHA, workers’ compensation, I-9 requirements, COBRA, etc.;, • Working knowledge of a full service HRIS in the processing of employment information;, • Must have well developed investigative, problem solving, and analytics;, • Ability to work independently and provide broad based service contributing at all levels from conceptual and systemic through completion of basic administrative tasks;, • Requires a highly professional demeanor, the ability to maintain a high level of discretion with information and keeps confidential information confidential. Exercises good judgement;, • Exhibit exceptional verbal, written and interactive communication skills;, • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook;, • Proactive, flexible, professional, respectful, and collegial when interacting with all people;, • Bachelor’s degree is desired. PHR or SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification is desired. Some college education is required;, • Flexible team-player. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with many competing needs;, • Prior experience at an arts organization is desired and preferred. Passion for and/or a background in the arts, and a dedication to the mission of The Wallis; This is a full-time, exempt position and is not eligible for overtime. The salary range for this position is $70,500 to $78,000 per year with 100% paid medical benefits, including dental, vision and life insurance ($25,000) for the employee, paid vacation, personal and sick days, 401k and paid parking.
