The position blends litigation, investigations, regulatory defense, and strategic counseling within a collaborative team dedicated exclusively to education and public entity clients. Core Responsibilities: • Represent and advise public school districts, charter schools, and public agencies in civil litigation and administrative proceedings, • Handle matters involving labor and employment disputes, workplace and student investigations, discrimination and harassment claims, special education compliance, student discipline, public contracting, and constitutional issues, • Prepare cases for administrative hearings, including drafting pleadings, pre-hearing and dispositive motions, witness preparation, and participation in mediations and resolution sessions, • Conduct and manage investigations involving certificated and classified employees, students, and parents, including Uniform Complaint Procedures and employment-related complaints, • Draft and argue motions, including dispositive and pre-hearing motions; support summary adjudication and related litigation strategy, • Appear before and manage matters involving agencies such as the Office for Civil Rights (OCR), California Department of Education (CDE), California Civil Rights Department, Labor Commissioner, and similar regulatory bodies, • Advise clients on employee discipline, accommodations, leave policies, governance compliance, Brown Act and Public Records Act obligations, and risk mitigation, • Counsel boards and leadership teams on governance, policy development, and compliance with evolving education and employment legislation, • J.D. from an accredited law school and active California Bar license, • Experience managing matters from intake through resolution in education law or public entity representation, • Background in one or more of the following strongly preferred: education law, labor and employment litigation, investigations, public entity defense, civil rights, or administrative law, • Strong written and oral advocacy skills with the ability to translate legal risk into practical guidance for public sector clients, • Comfort working directly with administrators, boards, and agency leadership Interested in hearing more?
