Job Description JOB SUMMARY This position, under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics and Associate/Assistant Athletic Directors, assists with developing and implementing specific athletic programs; directs and coordinates a full range of athletic department services and programs, and ensures compliance with NCAA regulations and college policies. This position also ensures that all regulations and guidelines that pertain to the conference and NCAA affiliations are met; directs and develops all aspects of athletic programs compliance and eligibility requirements. This class works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Represents the College in a positive manner; promotes and support the College and its Mission., • Promotes and supports the College’s Athletics Department and its Mission; must be knowledgeable of NCAA rules and regulations., • Prepares and manages the department’s budget., • Prepares inventory of supplies and equipment., • Reports on needs and maintenance of facilities and equipment to the Athletic Director; organizes and conducts practice sessions., • Recruits student-athletes., • Attends professional meetings, clinics, workshops, etc., • Works with the Sports Information Director regarding team pictures, publicity, and newsletters; works with the Athletic Director on scheduling., • Recommends athletes for awards., • Furnishes NCAA information regarding team roster, eligibility, etc. to the Athletic Director; maintains a thorough knowledge of NCAA, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Institutional rules and complies accordingly., • Responsible for developing training rules and conduct of athletes; responsible for other details or any other assignment by the Athletic Director., • Participates in fundraising activities; serves on college committees., • Provides a Roster of student athletes to the Compliance Office prior to beginning practice., • Provides prospective student athletes with physicals., • Provides Emergency Locator Forms to student athletes., • Provides a list of Coaching Expectations (Team Rules) to Athletics Department and student athletes prior to the first meeting., • Provides a list of Team Rules and violation consequences to the Athletics Department and student athletes., • Provides a list of requirements to earn a Scholarship Letter to the Athletics Department and student athletes., • Provides Scholarship Letter requirements to student athletes., • Provides a Roster for program to Sport Information Department., • Provides a Bio of assistants, students and volunteer coaches to the Athletics Department., • Attends NCAA/SIAC Rules and Interpretation meetings., • Prepares to take the NCAA Rules Recruiting Examination by the assigned date., • Provides student athletes with Pre-Season Conditioning and Strength Workout Programs., • Remains knowledgeable of any major changes in NCAA and SIAC rules and interpretations., • Advises coaches and athletes of all rule changes., • Stays up-to-date on the NCAA Manual., • Keeps a log of rules and interpretations asked by coaches and staff., • Works closely with the Athletic Director and Faculty Athletics Representative on any questions or problems with NCAA rules and interpretations., • Coordinates with NCAA office on questions and answers from coaches, staff and athletes., • Provides an orientation session for new coaches., • Conducts rules and education at weekly and monthly staff meetings., • Oversees the documentation and compliance of all recruiting efforts., • Coordinates all initial eligibility through the NCAA Clearinghouse., • Serves as liaison to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on rules/regulations., • Maintains NCAA Compliance Assistant Internet Software and Benedict’s student-athlete database., • Conducts weekly audits of all coaches involved in the recruitment of student-athletes., • Collects all weekly 20-hour timesheets, monthly contacts and evaluation forms, and all official visits documentation., • Communicates with admissions on application/acceptance/deposit status of incoming student- athletes., • Processes all National Letters of Intent and scholarship packets., • Submits all incoming freshmen student-athletes to the NCAA Clearinghouse., • Develops and revises the compliance manual and student-athlete handbook as necessary., • Travels for administrative work is expected., • Assists with the preparation of squad lists and other institutional, conference and NCAA forms., • Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business, science or closely related duties; Master’s degree preferred., • A minimum five (5) years of post-collegiate experience in Division II Compliance or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in Athletic Compliance preferred., • Normal work hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Overtime is required and may include after hours, evenings, weekends and holidays., • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work., • Ability to meet schedules and timelines., • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions., • Must have strong organizational and effective communication skills. Requires medium-to-heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing or raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. May be required to occasionally work in small, hard to reach spaces. Work is performed both inside a facility and outdoors in all weather conditions. Some hazardous situations may exist based on work to be performed. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work environment may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, disease/pathogens, toxic/caustic chemicals.
