Job Description JOB TITLE: Lineman I & II STATUS: Non-Exempt DEPARTMENT: Outside Plant REPORTS TO: Director of Outside Plant FULL/PART-TIME: Full-Time LOCATION: Holland Patent, NY: Must be located within 30-45min of Utica, NY Please note: The positions we are hiring for at this time are Lineman I and/or Lineman II. THE MISSION: The Lineman I, II, & III performs all essential job functions related to the construction and maintenance of the Outside Plant telecommunication network infrastructure. They provide prompt and courteous maintenance-free installation and repair services for residential and commercial customers. The Line Crew Foreman is responsible for the above as well as scheduling, directing, and coordinating the work plan while on the job. LINEMAN JOB DUTIES (I, II, III & Foreman): All Levels of lineman will complete the following tasks: • Residential installation and troubleshooting, • Meets customer installation and maintenance schedules, locates underground cable, meets target deadlines, resolves service interruptions. Includes construction of aerial and buried telecommunication network infrastructure., • Aerial construction consists of framing/transfers, strand installation, cable lashing, and pole-setting., • Buried construction consists of cable plowing, ditching, directional drilling, and conduit andmanholeconstruction., • Installation of drop services, • Includes construction of aerial and buried telecommunication network infrastructure, and ONT installation., • Construction of aerial and buried infrastructure, • Aerial construction consists of aerial drop installation, building attachments and penetrations, and interior building fiber installation., • Buried construction consists of conduit andmanholefiber installation, building attachment penetration, and interior building fiber installation., • ONT installation consists of equipment mounting and installation, fiber splicing of the ONT, and fiber splicing of the drop to the backbone., • Copper cable splicing and troubleshooting, • OCRT/Residential & troubleshooting Responsibilities: Includes copper drop installation, DSL installation, DSL troubleshooting, dial-tone installation, and copper cable troubleshooting., • Fiber Optic design, splicing, and troubleshooting, • Fiber optic backbone slicing, fiber opticdropsplicing, record keeping for GIS Mapping Software purposes, and fiber optic troubleshooting and diagnostics., • Designs fiber optic deliveryutilizingfiber records and GIS mapping software., • Multi-Dwelling-Unit (MDU) Design, installation, and troubleshooting, • Utilizes building plans and/or conducts a site survey, configure splitters and Optical Network Terminal (ONT) installation., • Physically runs fiber into and inside the building and connects individual units to the fiber., • Usesa light meter to test fiber and connectors to ensure that service has the abilityto belive., • Specific Job Duties Per Level:, • LINEMAN I:, • MDUandFTTxinstallation, • Drop Installation, • ONT Installation/Programming, • Basic Transfers, drilling poles, hardware, pulling fiber to conduits, etc., • Basic knowledge of lineworkand drop work, • LINEMANII-, • Work Independently on basic tointermediate lineworkand line transfers, • May includeall duties listed under Lineman I, • LINEMANIII -, • Complex Transfers, • Directional Drilling (Box), • Pole loading and setting, • Ability to engineer fiber delivery, • Distribution/CO Splicing, • Maybe responsible forthe design aspects of all linework, • May include all duties listed under Lineman I & II, • LINE CREW FOREMAN-, • Includes the above Lineman job duties, • Assigns work, instructing and training in methods including on-site safety, and makes recommendationsregardingtraining, promotions, and unsatisfactory performance, • Manages all on-site safety requirements which includes meeting all safety guidelines as instructed by the Director of Outside Plant, • Material Monitoring, • Coordinates and supervises daily tasks while ensuring operational efficiency, • Manages job prints for the line-crew, manages, interprets, clearly marks changes, and ensurestimelysubmission MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS: • All Levels, • High school diploma, • Must be able to work with hand tools, • Must be able to lift 50-100 pounds, • Must be able to work overtime asrequired, on-call rotationrequired, • Ability to do all aspects of work in a safe andtimelymanner., • Ability to navigate all Northland processes and procedures throughout the systems necessary to complete work whilemaintaininga professional and helpful attitude., • May require out-of-town travel from time to time, • Storm duty standbyrequired, • Ability to use tools andoperateheavy machinery, • Lineman II & Above, • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), • Previous Pole Climbing Experience, • Lineman III& Above, • Ability to lead a crew safely, • Line Crew Forman Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, sit, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions. Ability to exert more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES USED: Directional drill, back-hoe, track-hoe, bulldozer, cable plow, digger derrick, bucket truck, jack-hammer, and all related power tools, a 3M 965 meter, 3M Dynatel 2210 Location Set, Simpson OHM Meter, and Voltage Leak Detector. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: The employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
