Job Description Job Title: Field Service Compactor Mechanic Job Description This role provides on-site service, repair, and maintenance for waste compactors, cardboard balers, tarps, chutes, and related equipment across the Houston TX area. You will diagnose and repair hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical issues in the field, using both hands-on tools and digital job management systems. The position requires extensive experience as a service technician, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently in outdoor and sometimes dirty or smelly environments while maintaining professional communication with commercial and industrial clients. Responsibilities • Travel to commercial and industrial client sites within approximately a 100-mile radius of Houston to service and repair waste compactors, cardboard balers, tarps, chutes, and related equipment., • Perform hydraulic and mechanical repairs, including replacing hydraulic lines, cylinders, key switches, and press hoods., • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including PLCs, limit switches, photo-eye sensors, solenoids, and other control components., • Carry out light stick welding as needed for repairs and maintenance., • Use iPhones, tablets, and job management software to document work performed, record progress, and communicate status updates., • Safely move or reposition garbage and other materials as needed to access equipment and perform repairs., • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and in environments that may be dirty or have strong odors., • Communicate professionally with external clients at commercial and industrial properties, explaining work performed and any follow-up needs., • Collaborate with other field service technicians and remote teammates to troubleshoot complex issues and share best practices., • Participate in an on-call rotation every third weekend and respond to service calls as required., • Adhere to safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear and other required gear., • Manage time effectively to handle a high volume of service calls and routinely work extended hours as needed. Essential Skills • 7+ years of experience as a service technician in a field or shop environment., • Strong mechanical and hydraulic experience, including repair and replacement of hydraulic lines, cylinders, and related components., • Electrical experience, including troubleshooting PLCs and working with limit switches, photo-eye sensors, and solenoids., • Experience with waste management equipment repair, such as trash compactors and cardboard balers., • Ability to perform light stick welding safely and effectively., • Computer literacy and the ability to use smartphones, tablets, and job management software to document work and communicate., • Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients and internal teammates., • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently within a large metro area. Additional Skills & Qualifications (Additional but not Required) • Experience repairing waste management equipment, including compactors and balers., • Experience in car wash equipment repair or similar electromechanical systems., • Extensive PLC knowledge beyond basic troubleshooting., • Familiarity with equipment used by waste and recycling service providers., • Comfort working independently in the field without daily reporting to an office., • Ability to manage a service territory covering a wide geographic area and prioritize service calls., • Willingness to work extended hours and participate in a rotating on-call schedule, including weekends. Work Environment This is a field-based role with no requirement to report daily to an office. You will travel throughout the Houston area, typically within a 100-mile radius, to service equipment at commercial and industrial properties. Standard hours are Monday through Friday from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with work commonly extending to 5:00 p.m. or starting as early as 6:30 a.m., and it is very common to work 50 or more hours per week. Every third weekend you will be on call and receive a guaranteed on-call payment, with additional automatic higher rates when working on Saturdays and Sundays. You will work outdoors and around waste and recycling equipment, often in environments that can be dirty, noisy, and have strong odors, including working around garbage. The role uses a company service truck, smartphones, tablets, and job management software for dispatching and reporting. You will collaborate with two other field service technicians in the local area and a broader network of teammates across the country. The dress code includes steel-toe footwear, work pants, and a company-provided polo, along with any additional safety gear required for the job. . . . . . .
