Job Description General Contractor specializing in large-scale public works and infrastructure projects. Our portfolio includes projects for government agencies, municipalities, transportation authorities, educational institutions, and other public sector clients. We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to support complex, multi-faceted construction projects from preconstruction through bid submission. Position Overview The Construction Estimator will be responsible for preparing comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for large public works construction projects. This individual will analyze plans, specifications, schedules, and contract requirements while coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, project managers, and agency stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have experience working on complex public sector projects with strict compliance, scheduling, and reporting requirements. Key Responsibilities • Prepare detailed conceptual, schematic, design development, and hard-bid estimates for large-scale public works projects, • Review drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, bid packages, and contract documents to develop complete project pricing, • Perform quantity take-offs for civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical scopes, • Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals, • Analyze labor, material, equipment, and productivity costs to ensure accurate pricing, • Coordinate with project management and operations teams during preconstruction planning, • Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving strategies while maintaining project quality and compliance, • Prepare bid proposals and ensure all submissions comply with public agency procurement requirements and deadlines, • Attend pre-bid meetings, walkthroughs, and agency coordination meetings, • Maintain current market pricing, subcontractor relationships, and historical cost databases, • Assist in developing project schedules, logistics plans, and risk assessments during preconstruction, • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred, • 5+ years of estimating experience with a General Contractor, CM firm, or public works contractor, • Experience estimating large-scale public works, infrastructure, transportation, educational, healthcare, or municipal projects, • Strong understanding of public bid procedures, prevailing wage requirements, and government procurement processes, • Ability to read and interpret complex construction drawings, specifications, and contracts, • Proficiency in estimating and takeoff software such as Bluebeam, OST, Sage Estimating, Procore, or BuildingConnected, • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, • Experience with agencies such as SCA, DASNY, MTA, Port Authority, DDC, DOT, or similar public entities, • Familiarity with union labor environments and public sector compliance requirements, • Competitive base salary and performance bonus, • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, • 401(k) with company match, • Paid time off and company holidays, • Professional development and career advancement opportunities
