We are looking for a detail-oriented Managing Editor who is enthusiastic for sports to join our SportsTravel team. In this role, you will lead the editorial direction, content strategy, and day-to-day multi-platform content operations for Northstar’s Sports Division. You’ll also manage a small editorial team, produce original reporting, and serve as a visible representative of the SportsTravel brands across events, media channels, and the sports-events industry. This is a remote position and is open to candidates based in the United States. We also have an office in Rutherford, New Jersey and New York City for those who favor being in an office a few days a week. What You’ll Do: • Editorial Leadership & Team Management, • Set editorial priorities and oversee all SportsTravel content across digital platforms, newsletters, podcasts, social channels, and event-related media, • Manage and mentor the Senior Editor and contributors — assigning stories, editing copy, providing feedback, and ensuring timely, high-quality output, • Maintain close collaboration with sales, marketing, custom content, production, and event teams to support divisional goals, • Original Reporting & Editorial Voice, • Produce regular original content—news, features, interviews, commentary—that reflects a strong personal editorial voice and contributes meaningfully to SportsTravel’s authority in the sports-events and sports-tourism sectors, • Cultivate industry sources to strengthen reporting, deepen coverage, and maintain a recognized presence as an industry expert, • Event Content & On-Site Presence, • Lead editorial planning for Sports Division events, including identifying session themes, recruiting speakers, preparing moderators, and shaping program content, • Moderate or introduce sessions and maintain an on-stage presence as a representative of the brand, • Direct on-site editorial coverage, social media presence, and post-event content, • Digital Platform Management, • Serve as the primary editorial owner of SportsTravelMagazine.com, ensuring content accuracy, usability, and up-to-date site functionality in coordination with the development team, • Oversee production of the weekly SportsTravel e-newsletter, • Manage the placement of custom and advertorial content on the SportsTravel website, e-newsletter and social channels, • Industry Engagement, • Build and maintain strong relationships with sports-event organizers, destinations, venues, and industry suppliers, • Share relevant insights and leads with Sports Division colleagues in sales, buyer development, events, and marketing, • Track industry trends and suggest new editorial ideas, products, or revenue opportunities, • General, • Represent SportsTravel at industry events, press conferences, and site visits, • Host SportsTravel podcasts, webinars, and digital programs, • 5–7 years' reporting and editing experience on a website, magazine or travel publication, • 3–5 years’ experience managing employees, • Capability of reporting with absolute accuracy and writing compelling articles coherently on deadlines, • Experience managing and supervising other employees, • Strong researching, interviewing, writing, editing and networking skills, • Strong interest in and/or familiarity with sports at all levels, including esports, • Willingness to moderate panels and speak at live events, • Proficiency with social media channels including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and X, • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Word Press skills, • Proficiency in InCopy and Photoshop Northstar Travel Group is a great place to work, learn and grow. The annual base salary range for this role is $90,000 to $100,000 and is commensurate with experience.
