Job DescriptionABOUT THE ROLE:To continue advancing the impact we have across the communities we serve, Commonpoint is hiring an After School Group Leader situated within the Youth Education Services Department. The Youth Education Services Department provides safe, engaging, and enriching afterschool programs that promote academic success,social-emotional development, youth leadership, and overall well-being for children and families. The individual hired as an After School Group Leader will create a positive and inclusive learning environment by supervising students, facilitating engaging activities, providing academic support, and fostering meaningful relationships that encourage youth development and participation. This role plays an essential part in delivering high-quality programming while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. This role reports directly to the Assistant Program Director and Program Director. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:Agency Expectations: • Support agency initiatives by carrying out assigned duties accurately and efficiently, while following established processes and contributing to basic data collection, reporting, or documentation as required., • Use agency resources responsibly by following established procedures, safeguarding equipment and materials, and/or supporting cost-effective operations., • Work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and cross-department teams to ensure clear communication, timely task completion, and a positive, respectful work environment., • Follow all safety protocols, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for staff, partners, and the public, and promptly report concerns or incidents. Role Expectations:Youth Supervision & Development: • Supervise & Support: Provide active supervision of students from Kindergarten through Eighth grade, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging program environment, • Academic Support: Provide homework assistance and encourage positive study habits while supporting students' academic success., • Program Facilitation: Plan and facilitate engaging educational, recreational, and enrichment activities aligned with the program schedule and site plan., • Positive Youth Development: Model respectful behavior, reinforce program expectations, and use positive behavior management strategies to support student success., • Guide Transitions: Safely supervise and support students as they transition between activities, maintaining structure and engagement throughout the program. Program Operations: • Program Administration: Complete daily attendance and assist with required program documentation accurately and on time., • Communication & Reporting: Promptly communicate participant concerns, behavioral issues, injuries, or program-related concerns to the Program Director or Assistant Program Director. Assist with completing incident reports and required documentation as needed., • Maintain Program Spaces: Help organize, prepare, and maintain activity spaces and materials to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. Program Quality & Collaboration: • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with program staff to ensure consistent implementation of daily programming and operations., • Embed SEL: Incorporate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) into daily programming through check-ins, reflection activities, positive behavior modeling, and relationship building. Elevate concerns appropriately and collaborate with supervisors and mental health staff when needed., • Inclusive Practice: Adapt activities and materials to ensure youth of all abilities, including those with IEPs and disabilities, can participate safely and meaningfully., • COMPASS Content Areas: Support programming across COMPASS focus areas, including Literacy, STEAM, Health & Wellness, and College & Career Readiness, as outlined in the site plan., • Continuous Improvement: Assist with participant surveys and other program data collection efforts to support continuous quality improvement. Compliance & Professionalism: • Safety & Compliance: Follow Commonpoint, DYCD, and SACC policies related to active supervision, attendance, transitions, participant safety, mandated reporting, behavior management, and incident documentation., • Professionalism & Confidentiality: Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of participants and families by following agency policies regarding confidentiality, photography, video recordings, personal devices, and social media. Do not take, share, or post program-related photos, videos, or information without agency authorization., • Program Administration: Complete attendance, communicate participant concerns to supervisors, and assist with incident reports and required documentation. QUALIFICATIONS & KEY ATTRIBUTES:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Must be 18 years of age or older., • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children under the age of 13., • Associate's degree preferred., • High school diploma or equivalent required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience working in an afterschool, school, camp, recreation, or youth development setting., • Experience supporting youth with diverse learning, behavioral, or developmental needs., • Spanish-speaking candidates are highly recommended., • Availability to work Monday through Friday during the program schedule. After School is a neurodiverse community, and all staff members are responsible for supporting neurodivergent and neurotypical students to have a successful after school day. We are seeking part-time Afterschool Leaders who are enthusiastic, highly motivated role models who are directly responsible for the well-bring and safety of participants in the 14Y After School community. RESPONSIBILITIES • Attend all days of staff orientation before After School, • Attend all scheduled days of After School and monthly staff meetings during the year (After School runs from September 14, 2026 through June 4, 2027), • Pick up students from designated school pickiup location and escort them safety to the 14Y while following all safety and attendance procedures, • Communicate regularly and effectively with Afterschool Program Manager, • Work harmoniously with assigned co-Group-Leader(s) and Social Work Interns, • Maintain standards of Afterschool conduct, behavior management protocols, and inclusion, • When working with children and fellow staff, uphold and implement Afterschool values (Personal Growth, Empathy, Respect, and Passion), • Attend regular supervision and participate in evaluation processes, • Must adhere to agency and site-specific safety standards, • Comply with city and departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures, • Support youth development through After School programming which includes, but is not limited to: Art, Sports, Science, Music, Theatre, Academic Support, Shabbat programming, and more!, • Effectively develop a rapport with participants and parents, maintaining safety and confidentiality Afterschool Activities • Assume responsibility for the physical and mental health and safety of children in the Afterschool Community, • Keep a record of student activity, behavior, and injuries/accidents, • Actively participate in and support campers throughout all activities, • Provide quality supervision at all times (e.g. during school pick-up, in assigned homeroom, during snack, throughout activities and all transitional periods), • Assist Teachers with children’s needs during activities and step in to lead if/when necessary, • Be open to leading at least one easy-going class a week such as boardgames, ball games, yoga, watercolors, with support from After School leadership etc., • Encourage all participants to participate & be their on-site daily support system, • Focus on social dynamics & friendship building of assigned children, • When assigned to required monthly swim duty, ensure that children are safe and abiding by pool rules., • Be responsible for overall cleanliness and organization of spaces and suppliesQUALIFICATIONS, • Must be 18+, • Availability to work on site at the 14Y from 2:30pm-6:15pm at least 3 days per week from September 14th - January 22nd and January 25th-June 4th and staff orientation in September, • Previous experience working with children ages 5 to 10 years old strongly preferred., • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all community members, including modeling and facilitating positive conflict resolution, • Ability to be a mentor and be a resource to students, staff, families and embrace/foster cultural inclusiveness Limitations and Disclaimers The above job description is meant to describe the general nature and level of work being performed; it is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required for the position.
