May install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines and equipment and evaluate the unit to ensure functionality. * Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications or a sample part(s) to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations and set-up requirements. * Measures, marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on materials or work-piece as guides for subsequent machining. * Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes or others. * Calculates and programs controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut or enters commands to retrieve, edit or input computerized machine control media. * Analyze and resolve any set-up non-conformance. * Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring instruments and record data on in-process reports if required. * Sets up and operates machine on a trial run to verify accuracy of machine set-up or programmed control data. * Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly and verifies conformance if required. * May confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining or assembly problems. * Debug support as required. * May assist toolmaker/machine builder in assembly of larger projects. * May train employees if required. * May have secondary position on a “team” such as safety or ISO auditing.
