Job Description Overview Scaffold Builders erect, modify, and dismantle scaffolding and staging systems aboard Navy vessels, commercial ships, and barges in shipyard environments. Work includes tube-and-clamp, frame, and system scaffold installation, building platforms and access points, performing safety inspections, and ensuring all structures meet OSHA 10 Maritime, NAVSEA shipboard requirements, and load-rating standards. This role requires strong physical capability, the ability to work at heights, and prior experience in industrial, marine, or shipyard settings. Responsibilities • Erect, modify, and dismantle scaffold systems including tube-and-clamp, ringlock/cuplock, and frame scaffold, • Build platforms, planking, guardrails, toe boards, ladders, tie-ins, and structural bracing, • Read and interpret scaffold layout drawings, project specifications, and shipyard access requirements, • Load, unload, stage, and transport scaffold materials; inspect components for defects before use, • Conduct scaffold safety checks: stability, decking, tie-ins, load-bearing requirements, guardrail placement, and tagging, • Work aloft, in confined spaces, on weather decks, in dry docks, and aboard commercial and Navy vessels, • Coordinate with other trades (welders, painters, insulators, machinists, fitters) to provide safe access for work at height, • Follow OSHA 10 Maritime, NAVSEA safety protocols, fall protection requirements, and shipyard operational rules, • Maintain housekeeping, correct scaffold hazards immediately, and support evolving project needs Requirements • Minimum 2–3 years of scaffold building experience in shipyard, industrial, petrochemical, or commercial settings, • Strong knowledge of scaffold systems, load ratings, tie-ins, shoring, and bracing practices, • Ability to read scaffold drawings, staging layouts, and follow shipyard specifications, • Must pass background screening and meet shipyard access requirements (DBIDS when required), • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in physically demanding environments, • Strong attendance, reliability, and ability to work early shifts, overtime, nights, weekends, and in inclement weather, • Ability to lift heavy scaffold components and work safely using ladders, hand tools, and power tools Preferred Qualifications • Prior experience staging aboard Navy vessels or commercial ships, • Training or certification in scaffold erection, fall protection, or Competent Person roles, • Experience with system scaffolding such as Cuplock, Ringlock, or Kwikstage, • Familiarity with NAVSEA shipboard safety and industrial marine access requirements Additional Information • Respirator qualification not typically required but may be needed when staging in hot-work, paint, or abatement areas, • Must be able to climb, lift, carry, and maneuver heavy scaffold components in marine industrial conditions, • Classified by Venture Dynamics as a Semi-Skilled trade Venture Dynamics is an equal opportunity employer.
