Job Description Introduction: We are hiring a skilled general superintendent who will have the responsibility of facilitating the construction of 30-50 million dollars annually of hard-bid municipal construction projects. This role will be directly overseeing jobsite superintendents and foreman, and indirectly managing project engineers and all craft personnel. The general superintendent will provide leadership, guidance and support to superintendents while overseeing job schedules, manpower requirements, and heavy equipment utilization. Job Summary: Facilitate jobsite management by working with project managers, superintendents and foreman for on-site construction. Direct superintendents in planning, coordination and execution of work to be on time and within budget while maintaining a safe workplace and promoting client relationships. Primary Responsibilities: • Act as the primary point of contact for jobsite superintendents for project-related conflict resolution—if a project manager and jobsite superintendent cannot handle an issue alone due to size, scale or complexity, this role will provide support in conflict resolution and training, • Manage our jobsite superintendents and Gallo craft and assist them in assigning manpower to each project and forecasting heavy equipment utilization, • Attend project turnover meetings with estimating team, project manager and superintendent to get high-level summary of work is associated with each project, specifically what work Gallo is self-performing vs what is being subcontracted., • Conduct weekly meetings with our project superintendents to check on progress, including assisting in updating project schedules, work plans, job hazard analysis, means and methods. Identify any potential problems with work plans, means and methods and work with our project managers and superintendents to mitigate it, • Implement and enforce standards of production for self-performed work to ensure field personnel are operating efficiently and track productivity as required for relaying feedback to the preconstruction team, • Host weekly meetings with Director of Construction, project managers and superintendents to discuss manpower, equipment needs, and overall trade coordination, • Responsible for overall safety and quality in our construction department. Work directly with our Director of Construction, project managers, and shop manager to ensure that our work force has the tools and equipment they need to safely complete quality work, • Mentor superintendents, project engineers, and Gallo craft. Provide training as required to increase the competency of our workforce. Work directly with our senior leadership team to provide annual performance reviews for our superintendents, foreman and craft workforce, • Collaborate with our senior leadership team to roll out new processes and procedures. Develop standard operating procedures and implement them for our superintendents to facilitate more effective construction management, • Interview, screen and hire top tier craft talent, • Relay all issues experienced in the field related to employee engagement to Director of Construction to ensure we are addressing problems as they arise to ensure we retain top tier craft talent, • Develop a competency chart for each Gallo tradesman to identify skills and abilities of each craft employee and to recognize areas in need of improvement, • Create and implement new policies related to jobsite safety, • Create and implement new policies related to quality control, • 10+ years of experience in contract management for civil and building construction, including exposure to ground-up building construction, building renovations and retrofits, excavation, site work, utilities, and cast-in-place concrete, • 3-5 years of experience in leading a division or team of project managers, • Ability to travel within a 1.5 hour radius of Watervliet, NY as required for on-site meetings, • OSHA 30, • Quality control and the ability to complete site visits to ensure that our work force is in compliance and operating safely, • Exposure to construction projects related to schools, pre-engineered metal buildings, water/wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, heavy concrete rehabilitation, and complex municipal infrastructure work., • Background in standard operating procedure development and implementation, • Experience in completing complex, demanding infrastructure work with tough schedules and high-stakes.
