Job DescriptionJob Title: Senior Accountant Division: Administration Department: Fiscal Reports To: Director of Finance FLSA Status: Exempt Schedule: Full-Time (35 hours/week) Salary Range: $60,000 – $75,000 (commensurate with experience) POSITION SUMMARY The Senior Accountant supports the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of Boston Senior Home Care's general ledger and financial reporting processes. This role prepares key journal entries, reviews balance sheet reconciliations prepared by accounting staff, supports month-end and year-end close activities, and ensures financial data is complete and audit-ready within a regulated Aging Services Access Point (ASAP) environment. The role supports strong financial stewardship and provides functional accounting support across the organization. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES General Ledger & Close • Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including accruals, payroll allocations, prepaid amortization, depreciation, bank activity, and indirect cost allocations., • Review balance sheet reconciliations prepared by accounting staff for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate supporting documentation., • Monitor aging and reconciling items and ensure timely resolution., • Maintain reconciliation schedules and supporting documentation in accordance with internal control standards., • Record and reconcile all investment activity, including interest, dividends, realized and unrealized gains and losses, and investment management fees; maintain detailed investment schedules and reconcile custodian statements to the general ledger., • Prepare investment rollforwards, reconciliations, and related journal entries for financial reporting and audit purposes, submitting all supporting documentation for review and approval by the Director of Finance., • Assist in preparing internal financial statements and reports and variance reports., • Support analysis of purchased services, program expenditures, and indirect cost allocations within the ASAP structure., • Provide accurate financial data to support budgeting and forecasting processes., • Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for annual audits and state monitoring visits., • Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation consistent with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards., • Support preparation of Uniform Financial Report (UFR) schedules and other required state filings., • Assist in documenting internal control procedures and maintaining compliance records., • Perform data validation checks to ensure accuracy of financial transactions and coding., • Assist in maintaining standardized close documentation and reconciliation templates., • Support financial system improvements and process efficiency initiatives., • No direct supervisory responsibilities., • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and accountability., • Uphold internal control standards and documentation rigor., • Meet close, reporting, and audit deadlines., • Maintain professionalism and collaborative working relationships., • Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting., • Advanced reconciliation and analytical skills., • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel., • Experience with ERP systems (Sage Intacct or similar preferred)., • Ability to manage deadlines in a regulated environment., • Strong written and verbal communication skills., • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required., • 3–5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience., • Experience with month-end close and audit preparation required., • Experience in nonprofit, human services, healthcare, or grant-funded environments preferred. • Must be authorized to work in the United States. POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS Full‑time, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. TRAVEL Minimal travel required.
