Job DescriptionSalary: $84,531 - $102,749 SUMMARY: The Community Relations Coordinator coordinates and facilitates the community relations activities and initiatives of South Sound 911; educates community members about emergency communications, especially 911; and supports the agencys outreach, public information, and social media communication efforts. This position also supports agency recruitment, and the development and implementation of agency communications using digital and social media, community engagement, media relations, and brand management. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Coordinate, facilitate, attend, and participate in the community relations activities and initiatives of SS911. Educate members of the public about emergency communications, especially 911. Education typically includes classroom or other in-person presentations, and often includes public speaking, person to person or person to group engagement. Education activities can occur at schools, community organizations, partner agencies, constituency facilities, and other public venues. Create, develop, maintain, update, and present information or content, including print, digital, photo, and video content, for 911 education, community outreach and engagement, public information, recruitment, SS911 activities, events, campaigns, and social media, ensuring messaging is consistent and current. Provide leadership, coordination, and facilitation for a diverse Community Relations Team (CRT) of SS911 employees, which may involve recruiting participants, scheduling, issuing assignments, making arrangements for transportation, assembling and disassembling temporary structures and furniture, preparing and providing informational materials or media, making presentations, engaging members of the public, partners, stakeholders, and constituencies in person and virtually, and meeting with the CRT and other SS911 employees. Develop and foster connections and relationships, externally and internally, to improve and enhance community outreach and engagement. Plan, coordinate, organize and conduct facility tours and special events. Track and analyze data to assess community education and outreach needs; track effectiveness and outcomes. Compile information and prepare reports related to education and departmental activities, special projects, and statistics required for 911 education program evaluation and funding. Represent SS911 at meetings, events, or other activities involving 911 education and/or 911 initiatives on local, state and national committees and work groups as needed. Draft or review official communications, including press releases, articles, and reports. Ensure appropriate messaging within and concerning the agency and its services. Administer the South Sound 911 public website, including oversight of content, the content management system (CMS), and design. Support activities involving agency branding and/or graphic design. Support and participate in agency recruitment efforts. Oversee and/or provide recommendations for agency video and visual projects, which may include writing, editing, directing, and photography, and/or working with a third-party consultant or contractor. Gather or acquire and post content, such as photographs, videos, or other media, from SS911 activities. Respond to customer service feedback; involve other SS911 employees as appropriate. Performs other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: Adept use of the English language, to include the ability to write effectively and speak fluently. Skilled in modern digital media (including design/layout and video or image editing applications) and social networks or digital platforms and the ability to use such platforms for the release of public information. Ability to make effective in-person oral presentations in a variety of public forums for diverse audiences. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in a compelling manner using appropriate grammar, spelling, punctuation, speech, and expression. Demonstrated skill in event planning and activity coordination. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of community members, stakeholders, constituencies, partners, and interested parties. Possess an understanding of 911/public safety operations and emergency communications. Ability to exercise sound discretion with sensitive confidential material and information. Ability to exercise independent judgment in problem solving and decision-making. Analyze situations quickly and adopt an effective course of action. Perform work with many interruptions and multiple tasks to meet schedules and timelines. Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques of community, public, and media relations; advertising; and practices of preparing, producing and presenting marketing and public information materials. Ability to interpret community interests to positively promote the agency and its services. Proficient with standard suite of Microsoft Office software and phone system, and basic knowledge of HTML and/or website operations. Physical ability to lift, carry, move, or otherwise interact with structures, furniture, boxes or packages of materials, and office equipment. Possess and maintain, in good standing, a Washington State drivers license. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in communications, public relations, business, or public administration, or a related field; experience in community relations, public information, or education. Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable. Additional related education or experience may substitute year-for-year for these requirements. Experience in the public safety field preferred. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. This position will interact with employees and the community on a daily basis. Regular travel from the SS991 facility to off-site locations is required. Work is generally completed on a regularly scheduled basis; however, attendance at meetings, events or completion of work outside of normal scheduled hours is required from time to time, including evenings and weekends. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at a computer terminal, frequent walking both indoors and out; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, stoop, or kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Ability to travel and attend meetings away from regular work site as required.
