Job DescriptionThe Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for young children ages 2½–5 in a Pre-K classroom. The assistant helps implement daily routines, learning activities, and classroom management strategies that promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Spanish speaking candidates is a plus. In addition, the Teacher Assistant assists with the supervision and care of school-age children (ages 5–10) during the aftercare program by helping facilitate homework time, recreational activities, and structured play. Key Responsibilities Classroom Support (Pre-K Ages 2½–5) • Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and classroom activities., • Support children’s learning through play, exploration, and structured activities., • Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment., • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play, transitions, meals, and rest time., • Encourage positive behavior, social interaction, and independence., • Assist with diapering, toileting, and hygiene routines as needed., • Help prepare classroom materials, learning centers, and educational resources., • Observe children and communicate concerns or developmental progress to the Lead Teacher., • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and licensing regulations. Aftercare Duties (Ages 5–10) • Supervise children during after-school hours in a safe and supportive environment., • Assist children with homework and school assignments when needed., • Help organize recreational activities, games, arts and crafts, and group play., • Ensure smooth transitions from school day to aftercare programming., • Monitor behavior and encourage respectful and cooperative interactions., • Assist with snack distribution and cleanup., • Maintain accurate attendance and follow sign-in/sign-out procedures. Additional Duties • Communicate respectfully and professionally with children, families, and staff., • Assist during special events, field trips, and program activities., • Follow all center policies, child safety protocols, and state licensing requirements., • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required. Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred., • Experience working with young children in a childcare, preschool, or educational setting preferred., • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff., • Strong communication, patience, and classroom management skills., • Ability to supervise active children and participate in physical activities (bending, lifting, sitting on the floor)., • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
