Our Day Habilitation programs provide engaging opportunities that encourage personal development, social interaction, and overall wellness. We are currently seeking a motivated and energetic Exercise Instructor to lead engaging fitness activities that support the physical health, coordination, and confidence of individuals participating in our Day Habilitation program. Position Summary The Day Habilitation Exercise Instructor is responsible for planning and leading fun, engaging, and adaptive fitness classes designed for individuals with developmental disabilities. This role focuses on promoting physical activity, overall wellness, and social engagement while ensuring that all activities are safe, inclusive, and tailored to participants' individual abilities. The instructor will create a supportive and positive environment that encourages participation, builds confidence, and promotes healthy lifestyle habits. Key Responsibilities • Plan and lead engaging exercise classes designed to improve physical health, coordination, and mobility for program participants., • Adapt exercise routines to meet the varying physical abilities and individual needs of participants., • Promote healthy movement, fitness, and personal growth in a safe and supportive environment., • Encourage participation and motivate individuals by creating fun, interactive, and engaging activities., • Demonstrate exercises clearly using visual cues and guided instruction., • Monitor participants during activities to ensure safety and provide assistance when needed., • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere using encouragement, music, and positive reinforcement., • Educate participants on the benefits of exercise and healthy physical activity., • Collaborate with Day Habilitation staff to support participant wellness goals., • Maintain a safe and organized exercise environment., • High School Diploma or equivalent required., • Minimum 2 years of experience teaching fitness, dance, movement, or exercise classes., • At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred., • Group fitness certification or equivalent training strongly preferred., • Ability to design simple and engaging routines incorporating cardio, strength, and flexibility exercises., • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills., • Ability to motivate and encourage participants in a supportive manner., • Ability to actively demonstrate exercise movements for extended periods of time., • Capable of leading exercise classes lasting up to 60 minutes., • Ability to move freely throughout the activity space to observe participants and provide guidance., • Physical activities may include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, and demonstrating exercises., • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds if necessary., • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with individuals with developmental disabilities., • Must maintain adequate vision and hearing to ensure participant safety during activities., • Duties and responsibilities may be adjusted as needed to meet organizational needs.
