Job Description Job Description: Upper School Science Teacher (Integrated Biology & Chemistry) Overview Dwight-Englewood School, the largest independent school in Bergen County, NJ, and a growing, vibrant, and diverse learning community in the New York City metro area, is seeking to fill a full-time Upper School Science teaching position starting in the 2026–2027 school year. Candidates should have a strong knowledge of both biology and chemistry. The STEM Center, which opened in 2015, houses the Science and Mathematics Departments, complete with 8 science labs, 7 mathematics classrooms, a greenhouse, and an innovation lab for robotics and other programs. This 30,000 square foot facility was designed with purposeful collaboration between the architects and the faculty and represents the best in planning for the future of science and mathematics education. Essential Responsibilities * Actively support the Mission of the School and put that vision into daily practice. * Teach 4 sections of Science, including: * At least one section in our innovative Integrated Biology and Chemistry program for 9th and 10th graders. This two-year sequence emphasizes environmental application, experimental design, and real world examples and has a significant laboratory component. Teachers work collaboratively using a custom curriculum that focuses on the skills and fundamental understandings associated with science. * The position may also include teaching advanced courses such as semester electives for 11th and 12th graders at the college placement or honors level, teaching AP Biology, and/or advising our independent research program. * Attend weekly departmental and/or divisional meetings after school. * Serve as an advisor to a small group (usually around ten) of Upper School students. * Participate in activities as required. * Provide extra help for students as necessary. * Perform other duties as assigned, such as lunch supervision, etc. Desired Qualities * A true love of working with Upper School students. * A personality that is approachable, encouraging, and positive. * Experience designing and giving feedback to students using a variety of strategies, including labs, tests, projects, activities, discussions, papers, etc. * Clear, consistent, and dynamic communication with students, colleagues, and parents. * Experience leading advisory programs and/or other student-centered programs. * A growth mindset. * Ability to work within and contribute to a high performing professional team. Position Requirements * A Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in related fields. * Experience teaching Science at the Upper School level. * Personal and professional alignment to the school’s mission, vision, and values. * Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, multiculturalism, and anti-bias education in all aspects of the work with Upper School students, families, and colleagues. * Excellent oral, written, and electronic communication skills * Leadership of after-school activities (in athletics, the arts, or other programs). Terms of Employment * This is a full-time, 10 month teaching position. * Professional days are considered work days and participation in planned activities is mandatory. * Standard working hours are 8 am to 4 pm with attendance at weekly division/department meetings required. These meetings may go as late as 5 pm. * Salaries are based on years of experience and education level. The salary range for this position based on the requirements stated above is $65,000 to $100,000.
