Job DescriptionJob Title: Maintenance Mechanic Job Description The Maintenance Mechanic performs both preventive and reactive maintenance on production equipment in a high-volume bakery plant. This role diagnoses equipment issues, completes corrective repairs, and supports safe, reliable, and efficient operation of machines such as wrappers, conveyors, packaging equipment, ovens, and overhead doors. The position requires strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, including PLC knowledge, to support continuous production in a food and beverage manufacturing environment. Responsibilities • Perform preventive maintenance on production machinery, including wrappers, conveyors, packaging equipment, ovens, and overhead doors, to reduce downtime and extend equipment life., • Diagnose mechanical and electrical breakdowns quickly and accurately, using troubleshooting methods to identify root causes., • Perform corrective maintenance and repairs on production equipment, including replacing or adjusting components such as sprockets, pulleys, gears, and related mechanical parts., • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including 3-phase electrical circuits and related components, to restore equipment to safe operating condition., • Use PLC troubleshooting skills to identify control issues, faults, or programming-related problems affecting machine performance., • Support PLC programming changes or adjustments as needed to improve equipment reliability and performance, in collaboration with other maintenance or engineering personnel., • Maintain and repair conveyor systems, ensuring proper alignment, tension, and operation of belts, chains, and drives., • Work with pneumatic systems as needed to troubleshoot and repair actuators, valves, and related components on production machines., • Document maintenance activities, including preventive tasks, repairs performed, and parts used, in accordance with plant procedures., • Collaborate closely with production and other maintenance team members to prioritize work, minimize downtime, and support safe and efficient operations., • Follow all plant safety procedures and lockout/tagout practices while performing maintenance and repair tasks., • Identify opportunities for proactive maintenance and reliability improvements on production equipment and communicate recommendations to the team.Essential Skills, • Hands-on experience performing preventive and reactive maintenance on production machinery., • Strong mechanical skills with experience working on conveyors, sprockets, pulleys, gears, and related mechanical components., • Experience in production machine maintenance within a food and beverage manufacturing environment., • Ability to troubleshoot and repair both mechanical and electrical issues on production equipment., • Practical knowledge of PLC troubleshooting to diagnose control and automation issues., • Experience working with 3-phase electrical systems and related industrial wiring., • Ability to perform maintenance repair tasks safely and efficiently in a production setting., • Familiarity with pneumatic systems used in production machinery., • Capability to work as a maintenance technician on both mechanical and electrical systems (mechanical-electrical skill set).Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience as a production machine mechanic in a manufacturing environment., • Background as a preventive maintenance mechanic with focus on production equipment reliability., • Experience as an electrician or with electrical maintenance in an industrial setting., • Exposure to PLC programming and making basic programming adjustments., • Prior experience in a bakery or similar food production plant is beneficial., • Comfort using tools and diagnostic equipment commonly used in mechanical and electrical maintenance.Why Work Here? Work may involve standing, walking, and performing hands-on maintenance tasks throughout the shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bohemia, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
