Job DescriptionJob Title: PLC Technician / Industrial Electrician Job Description The PLC Technician / Industrial Electrician installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs industrial electrical systems, equipment, and production machinery. This role focuses on diagnosing malfunctioning systems, performing corrective repairs, and ensuring safe, reliable operation of electrical power distribution, motors, and control systems in a production environment. Responsibilities • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical and electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using appropriate hand and power tools., • Troubleshoot and repair all aspects of the electrical power distribution system with utilization voltages of 480V, 4,160V, and 13.8KV., • Troubleshoot and repair AC induction motors of all types, including single-phase and three-phase motors., • Use PLC ladder logic to troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and assist with diagnosing control issues., • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of various PLC manufacturers and control systems to support troubleshooting and interlock testing., • Utilize electrical test equipment such as volt-ohm meters (VOM), insulation resistance testers, micro-ohmmeters, and Motor Circuit Analyzers (MCE) to diagnose electrical issues., • Read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints to understand machine electrical systems and identify faults., • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, and other components according to schematics and applicable codes., • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards., • Advise leadership on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous and recommend appropriate actions., • Test electrical systems and verify continuity of circuits in wiring, equipment, and fixtures using devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters to ensure compatibility and safety., • Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools as needed to restore safe and reliable operation., • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures while working from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs, including work at heights., • Place conduit (pipe or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes., • Maintain a professional working relationship with multidisciplinary maintenance teams and collaborate effectively with production personnel., • Follow all plant safety procedures and maintain strong safety awareness in every task performed., • Perform work while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, including rain gear, chemical protective clothing, supplied-air and air-purifying respirators, safety harnesses, sandblast hoods, fire-resistant coveralls, hard hats, ear plugs, and safety glasses., • Work in various physical positions, including stooping, standing, bending, sitting, kneeling, and squatting, and perform tasks that require climbing stairs, working at heights, and maintaining balance for extended periods., • Interact professionally with on-site customers as needed and represent the maintenance team in a positive and service-oriented manner., • Work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shift schedules when required to support production needs., • Perform other related duties as assigned to support safe and efficient plant operations.Essential Skills, • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an electrician in a production or industrial environment (not in construction)., • Extensive experience repairing electrical breakdowns on production machinery and industrial equipment., • Strong ability to use PLC ladder logic to troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and control systems., • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing AC induction motors, including three-phase and single-phase motors., • Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical power distribution systems at 480V, 4,160V, and 13.8KV., • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and machine drawings., • Skilled in using electrical test equipment such as VOMs, insulation resistance testers, micro-ohmmeters, and Motor Circuit Analyzers (MCE)., • Solid understanding of motor controls, including three-phase and single-phase motor control circuits., • High school diploma or GED required., • Basic computer skills for documentation, communication, and equipment interfaces., • Ability to lift more than 50 pounds safely and repeatedly as needed., • Ability to walk and stand for approximately 90% of the workday., • Ability to work effectively in both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned environments., • Willingness and ability to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts as needed., • Self-motivated and comfortable working in a highly self-managed role with minimal direct supervision., • Ability and willingness to interact professionally with on-site customers., • Strong commitment to safety and consistent use of required personal protective equipment.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience working within a multidisciplinary maintenance team in an industrial or manufacturing setting., • Familiarity with multiple PLC manufacturers and industrial control systems., • Comfort working at heights using ladders, scaffolds, and elevated platforms., • Ability to identify electrical hazards and recommend corrective actions to improve safety and reliability., • Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to diagnose complex electrical issues under time pressure., • Good communication skills to clearly explain issues, repairs, and safety concerns to team members and leadership., • Reliability and punctuality to support production schedules and Work Environment The standard schedule for this role is Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts as production needs require. The position is highly active, with approximately 90% of the day spent walking or standing on the shop floor. The work takes place in an industrial production environment that includes both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned areas, and some parts of the shop can be dirty, requiring comfort with hands-on, physically demanding tasks. You regularly work around industrial machinery, electrical systems, and power distribution equipment, and you may perform tasks at heights using ladders, scaffolds, and elevated surfaces. The role requires consistent use of personal protective equipment, which may include rain gear, chemical protective clothing, supplied-air and air-purifying respirators, safety harnesses, sandblast hoods, fire-resistant coveralls, hard hats, ear plugs, and safety glasses. You must be able to work in various physical positions, such as stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing stairs, while maintaining balance for extended periods in a busy, production-focused environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tempe, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
