Job Description Catering Service Captain Position / Creations in Cuisine Catering Join Our Team We are currently hiring for the position of Catering Service Captains. Our staff enjoys a flexible work schedule and a diverse work environment, participating in a variety of wedding, social, and corporate functions throughout the fall, winter, and spring event seasons. About Us Creations in Cuisine Catering is a full-service catering company with over 29 years of experience serving Phoenix, the surrounding area, and Northern Arizona. Our mission is to provide extraordinary service and exquisite food to help make every event memorable for our clients and their guests. Responsibilities The Catering Service Captains serve as company ambassadors and spokesperson at each event, whether casual or elegant. The captain is responsible for ensuring the flawless execution of every event from start to finish. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Attending and participating in weekly perspective meetings to fully understand and execute assigned events., • Directing, organizing, and coordinating both front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH) crews of 1–50 people during the setup and breakdown of offsite events, while enforcing company policies and standards., • Arriving early at the commissary or warehouse before events to inspect equipment, oversee the packing of menu items, and gather any additional needed items., • Taking responsibility for the proper handling of all equipment before and after events to prevent any damage., • Greeting and communicating with clients, guests, vendors, and staff in a professional and friendly manner., • Reviewing event details with all parties to ensure proper and timely execution., • Inspecting venues, event rooms, and all setup and staging areas as described on the BEO to ensure efficient and effective event setup., • Overseeing décor setup for buffets, action stations, tabletop service, beverage and dessert stations, as well as field kitchens and BOH service stations for efficient breakdown., • Collaborating directly with the culinary team to clarify event expectations, including timing, production, presentations, and ingredient information related to allergies., • Conduct pre-service meetings to provide guidance and motivation, while inspecting staff for proper grooming, hygiene, and uniform appearance., • Ensuring all guest requirements are set 30 minutes prior to the event start time., • Performing a final walkthrough of FOH and BOH to ensure everything is clean, organized, and that no equipment is left behind., • Inspecting the truck and equipment to ensure proper loading and secure transport., • Holding post-event meetings with staff to offer praise or address any concerns as needed before releasing staff from their shift., • Returning to the commissary to unload viable food items into the walk-ins and freezer, securing the truck, and submitting the event folder. Skills and Qualifications • Current Food Handlers Card and Title 4 alcohol certification., • At least 3 years of service experience in catering, hotels, resorts, or other food service establishments., • At least 1 year of management and leadership experience., • Consistent professional manner and appearance., • Physical ability to lift more than 40 lbs., • Ability to carry 8 or more plated meals on a tray above shoulder height., • Exceptional customer service skills., • Ability to multitask with strong communication and organizational skills., • Ability to work independently or manage a crew of 1–50 people., • Ability to maintain professionalism and enforce service standards under pressure without disrupting event flow., • Anticipate guest needs, fulfill all requests, and manage meal service timing and cleanup., • Discuss, review, and communicate any last-minute changes, managing their execution with the event team., • Reliable transportation is required, • You must have a clean Department of Motor Vehicles driving record and a valid Arizona state driver's license. Work Location and Schedule Creations in Cuisine Catering’s corporate office and commissary is located at 1825 W Crest Lane, Phoenix, Arizona 85027. Weekly staff meetings and event preparations take place at this location. Captains are required to meet here at their scheduled time to inspect equipment, oversee packing, and gather event-related items. Event locations vary and may be anywhere. Willingness to travel throughout the valley, southern, and northern Arizona is required. • Attending a weekly BEO / staff meeting is at times required., • Shifts are scheduled at least two weeks to one month in advance, depending on event bookings., • Captain shifts typically last 5–8 hours, with a guaranteed minimum of 4 hours per shift., • Once scheduled, staff has 48 hours to accept or decline the shift., • After accepting a shift, Service Captains are expected to fulfill their commitment. Excessive call-offs or shift rescheduling are not acceptable., • Captains may also be scheduled as support staff (such as co-captain, server, or bartender) at the captain’s hourly rate minus incentive bonus., • Events may take place in the early morning, afternoon, or evening, including some holidays as dictated by business needs., • Dependability is essential with minimal shift refusals, tardiness, or absences. Compensation and Benefits Creations in Cuisine Catering offers a competitive and generous compensation package, recognizing the importance of work-life balance for all staff members. • Hourly compensation for Captains ranges from $15–$18 per hour, depending on experience, with additional incentive bonuses and gratuity., • Incentive bonuses and are awarded based on management’s evaluation of event execution, equipment care, and positive feedback from clients, vendors, and staff., • Gratuity is guaranteed at an hourly rate for all events except certain contracted festivals, charities, or marketing events. Staff will be notified in advance., • Paid travel time is provided for events that are an excessive distance from the commissary., • Matching 401(k) participation is available., • Shared expense insurance coverage is offered., • Sick pay is provided., • Holiday pay is available when scheduled for work on a holiday., • Earned vacation pay is included., • Staff appreciated events such as companywide holiday and end-of-season parties., • Christmas bonus., • Daily staff meals at the commissary., • Event shift meals when possible (not guaranteed).
