Job Description JOB TITLE: Assembly Lead PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: The Assembly Cell Lead is responsible for coordinating daily operations within the assembly department, ensuring that production goals are met safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This role leads a growing team of assembly and cross-trained employees, supporting continuous improvement, effective communication, and a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability. CORE VALUES: The following list of Core Values and Behaviors are necessary to meet the minimum requirements: TEAMWORK • Help each other succeed, • Communicate clearly and directly, listen well, • Encourage team mates, • Honor your commitments, • Do the right thing, • Improve processes, • Open to new ideas, • Share information, and teach, • Expose issues NUMBERS FOCUSED • Deliver results, • Analyze data for improvement, • Take ownership and accountability, • Exhibit passion in serving customers, • Contribute solutions, • Sense of urgency, • Be the best at what you do, • Be positive, • Celebrate achievements, • Don’t take yourself too seriously CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES: Essential • Lead and coordinate all activities within the assembly cell, including scheduling, task assignments, and workflow optimization., • Ensure all team members follow established safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area., • Oversee quality standards and inspections throughout the assembly process; support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for defects or rework., • Monitor daily production performance metrics (safety, quality, OTD, productivity, labor hours) and communicate results to management., • Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, and logistics teams to resolve production issues and support on-time delivery., • Train, coach, and mentor assembly team members to improve skill levels, cross-training, and operational flexibility., • Support implementation of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives., • Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, fixtures, and equipment., • Drive engagement, teamwork, and open communication within the cell., • Lead by example for attendance, work ethic, accountability, attitude, and teamwork, • Use ERP system to plan the department for optimal efficiency, • Update the QDIP board and utilize it to complete improvements within the department, • Complete 5S Audits and assign 5S action items weekly, • Complete Process Audits to ensure that processes are being correctly followed by all employees, • Complete Quality Audits, determine cause of any defect and complete NCR’s as necessary, • Coordinate and communicate production plan with second shift operators, • Track and report efficiency of department and develop solutions for low efficiency, • Ensure preventative maintenance on equipment is completed as scheduled, • Plan work from drawings, programs or other specifications, • Set up jobs as required, • Buy off first article for operators as needed, • Ensure and record accurate counts, • Maintain proper inventory and storage of material, • Ensure work is documented accurately and completely, including inspections, clock-in & clock-out as well as material issuing., • Have parts properly prepared to hand off to the next process, • Maintain and verify effective levels of inventory for upcoming jobs, being a resource for programming and purchasing., • Responsible for maintaining and improving safety standards, • Expected to work a minimum of 50% of available time on production jobs, • Communicate clearly and in a timely manner with supervisor and co-workers, • Communicate with other departments to plan and coordinate work to meet production schedules, • Willing to work overtime when needed, • Maintain the responsibilities of the ISO 9001 system in accordance with the requirements defined in the Quality Manual, and Procedure Level documentation, • Perform daily maintenance as needed, • Keep work area clean and organized, • All other duties as assigned REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor WORKS WITH: B&J Team Members SAFETY REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Follow all OSHA safety regulations and those set by B&J Industries. REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Essential • Minimum three years’ experience in manufacturing environment, • Minimum one year supervisory or lead experience, • Basic math skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals, • Strong drawing reading skills, • Ability to read and understand shop orders, policies and procedures, • Writing ability to record information on shop orders, • Ability to use precision measuring instruments, • Grind, deburr and clean parts to a cosmetic finish as needed, • Ability to adhere to quality standards, • Ability to coach and teach, • Ability to perform repetitive tasks, • Ability to learn from supervisors and co workers, • Manual dexterity Beneficial • High school graduate plus relevant vocational training (e.g. sheet metal work, shop mathematics, mechanical drawing, metallurgy, blueprint reading, welding certification), • Experience in a precision sheet metal environment, • Additional math skills relating to algebra, geometry and/or trigonometry PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Sit 15%, Stand 25%, Walk 25%, Bend 8%, Squat 8%, Lift 10%, Twist 4%, Kneel 1%, Reach Above Shoulder 1%, Climb 1%, Drive 1%, Push/Pull 1%. Maximum (minutes): Sit 15, Stand 90, Walk 90, Bend 30, Squat 30, Lift 30, Twist 20, Kneel 5, Reach Above Shoulder 15, Climb 5, Drive 5, Push/Pull 15. Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must have normal vision (with or without corrective lenses) and hearing (with or without corrective hearing aids). Working Environment: Shop environment. Moderate noise level. Exposure to dust, heat and cold, and various welding gases. This position will require drug testing per company policy. Monday - Thursday 5:00am - 3:30pm
