DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: New York State Homes Community and Renewal (NYSHCR) is seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to play a key role in the development and support of the Agency’s web-based mortgage application as well as other projects as needed. The Senior Java Developer must have experience in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and is responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging and documentation. He/she will report to the Applications Development Manager. The Senior Java Developer must be able to communicate well and work independently as well as in a team environment. Responsibilities Include (but not limited to): • Provide full life cycle development with JAVA and web-based/cloud technologies, • Understand coding standards and implement them within code being developed, • Troubleshoot problems and provide solutions, • Communicate with the users to determine problems or design requirements, • Document changes and follow the Systems Development Life Cycle process independently, • Willing to learn and adopt new technologies in short period of time, • Lead/assist in training staff in Java/web-based technologies, as needed, • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology or related Field, • 10 years of relevant experience in a J2EE development role, • Experience of JAVA APIs and J2EE components, • Expert UI skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), • Experience with Tomcat and Apache web server, • Ability to work in a Linux environment with basic systems administration skills, • Experience of Hibernate, Struts and Spring frameworks, • Experience with MS SQL Server and Postgres, • Experience with writing REST and SOAP web services, • Experience with XML technologies (Java serialization frameworks, authoring), • Experience with SVN, JProfiler, Hudson, Ant, • Experience with JSP, JavaScript, JSON, JQuery, AJAX, • Experience with JavaMail, Log4J, CXF, Quartz, commons-*, jndi, Axis, • Experience with displaytag, iText, rule editors/engines, DbUnit, HttpUnit, JUnit, ANT, and SVN, • Experience of Data structures, Algorithms, OOP essentials, • Experience leading/managing developers and providing technical direction, • Experience with conforming to requirements, design, coding, testing, debugging and documentation, • Solid background in reviewing code, creating technical documentation, making recommendations, refactoring code, building new systems and enhancing existing systems, • A strong understanding of architecture and coding standards is very important., • Knowledge in finance and mortgages is a plus, • Solid oral and written communication skills and ability to lead is a must WHAT WE OFFER AT NYS HCR: • Extensive benefits package including paid leave, including excellent health, dental, vision and retirement benefits with the New York State & Local Employees’ Retirement System., • Promotional opportunity for dedicated professionals., • Work life balance benefits include a 37.5-hour work week and paid time off benefits including vacation, sick, personal days, and Federal Holidays., • Opportunity for compressed scheduling., • 12 weeks of Paid Parental Leave., • Paid Family Leave., • Opportunity for compressed/flextime scheduling., • Cash in for Wellness!
