Job Description POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: MEDICAL ASSISTANT DEPARTMENT: PATIENT SERVICES SUPERVISOR: HEALTH CENTER MANAGER FLSA: NON-EXEMPT POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the provision of information and services, and to provide support for the clinical care of patients, under the supervision of the Health Center Manager, and VP Patient Services, Regional Director of Patient Services, and Advanced Practicing Clinicians. Demonstrate understanding and support of the affiliate’s mission and goal., • Warmly greet patients upon arrival at health center/telehealth visits, or when first engaging with a patient., • Maintains good working relationships with other management staff and works cooperatively with health center personnel., • Perform basic clerical operations, i.e., answer phones, make appointments, take messages, transfer records for patients to other agency health centers, ensure completion of health center records and required forms., • Consistently demonstrate the team approach to service delivery and make constructive recommendations for improving team performance., • Respond to patient requests and inform patients of health center procedures, policies and instructions to include contraceptive supply and other medications/resource materials., • Explain all FDA approved birth control methods and provide specific instruction on the patient’s selected birth control method., • Inform patients and callers in a non-directive manner (meaning without guidance, suggestion or directing) about all options available to them in the event of an unintended pregnancy and make a referral for service based on the patient’s/caller’s decision., • Describe the difference between medication and procedural abortion in a non-directive manner., • Perform medical and social history intake, STI screenings and point of care testing for patients, • Complete basic lab work and follow procedures required by Medical Standards and Guidelines, State and/or federal licensing entities (i.e. CLIA, AHCA)., • Demonstrate accountability and responsibility in the work that is completed and tasks that are assigned., • Demonstrate accountability and responsibility in the flow, tasks, and upkeep of the health centers worked in., • Conduct courteous and confidential patient interviews and accurately complete all necessary documentation on patients., • Make referrals for additional patient care, when indicated and appropriate., • Monitor flow of patients to assist providers and expedite service., • Ensure the exam room set up is appropriate to visit type and cleaned according to infection prevention protocols between patients., • Perform all recordkeeping duties related to patient care with accuracy., • Demonstrate proficiency with front desk responsibilities including registering patients, collecting and verifying insurance, informing/signing of consents, accurate collecting and entering of payments, daily balancing and summary sheets, preparation of daily bank deposits, etc., • Demonstrate proficiency and understanding of PPFL’s financial policies regarding fee collection, contracted insurers, and grant funding for patients., • Demonstrate proficiency and understanding of PPFL’s patient access policies and ability to schedule appointments., • Assist in maintaining an attractive and comfortable appearance in the health center., • Perform housekeeping and stocking duties within the health center daily, weekly and as needed., • Consistently meet all customer service standards., • Maintain confidentiality of patient information., • Hours may include evenings and weekends, depending on business needs., • Assist in providing additional medical services, once trained and as deemed appropriate., • Perform necessary cleaning and maintenance of equipment within the health center daily, weekly, monthly, and as needed., • Must have a firm knowledge and understanding of internal policies, including, but not limited to: PPFL Medical Standards and Guidelines, Human Resources Policies, Infection Prevention and Lab Manual, and adhere to the policies., • Participate in compliance program with all affiliate quality assurance standards and guidelines., • Complete required onboarding training and curriculum for the position, in addition to other training deemed necessary, thereafter., • Support PPFL in holding coworkers accountable and taking ownership of assigned tasks and work for the betterment of the department., • Follow PPFL policy on disciplinary actions to assure accountability and ownership., • High School graduate or equivalent., • A minimum of one (1) year of experience or equivalent., • Medical care and reproductive rights experience are helpful., • Experience in dealing with the public., • The ability to learn ultrasound, procedural assistance and AB lab as well as other skill enhancements at the discretion of the affiliate., • Must have a strong understanding of and personal commitment to reproductive rights and the goals and responsibilities of Planned Parenthood., • Excellent organizational, communication and sound decision-making skills., • Must have a commitment to efficiency and quality., • Must be comfortable when discussing sexuality, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy options., • Ability to recognize and function appropriately in sensitive situations., • Previous experience working with Microsoft Office suite is preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS: Most of the work will be performed indoors in a climate-controlled work environment. Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents violence, disease or pathogenic substances.
