Job DescriptionJob Title: Maintenance Electrician / Electro-Mechanical Technician (2nd Shift) Job Description This role focuses on proactive and preventive maintenance of manufacturing equipment in an automotive and medical production environment that uses aluminum and rubber components. You will perform approximately 50% electrical and 50% mechanical work on presses, molding machines, trimmers, and related equipment, with about 20% of your time dedicated to utilities and facilities tasks. The position requires strong hands-on electrical troubleshooting skills, the ability to work safely around chemicals, and experience with hydraulics and pneumatics. You will help rebuild and strengthen the maintenance team by ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting continuous improvement. Responsibilities • Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on manufacturing equipment, including presses, molding machines, trimmers, and associated systems., • Conduct daily rounds at the start of each shift, including checks of boilers and water systems, documenting findings and addressing issues promptly., • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including wiring, switches, relays, contactors, starters, AC/DC drives, and motors up to 480 volts., • Read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and mechanical blueprints to diagnose and resolve issues., • Install, maintain, and repair electrical infrastructure such as conduit, outlets, breakers, transformers, and lighting circuits., • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and replace hydraulic and pneumatic valves, cylinders, and related components as needed., • Rebuild mechanical assemblies such as rack and pinion systems on presses to restore proper function and reliability., • Replace gears, pulleys, belts, and other mechanical drive components on machines, exhaust fans, and AC units., • Perform utilities and facilities maintenance tasks, including work related to boilers, HVAC, chillers, and general plant systems., • Handle and work safely around hazardous chemicals, using appropriate personal protective equipment and following established procedures., • Use basic PLC knowledge (including Allen-Bradley and Siemens) to assist in troubleshooting control issues and support equipment uptime., • Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation related to inspections, testing, maintenance, installations, and repairs., • Support compliance with GMP, SOPs, and other operational procedures by learning and applying company standards in daily work., • Collaborate with production and other maintenance team members to plan repairs, coordinate shutdowns, and minimize equipment downtime., • Work overtime as needed, including some weekend hours, to support repairs, shutdowns, and critical maintenance activities.Essential Skills, • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required., • At least 5 years of related mechanical and electrical maintenance experience within a food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing environment., • Strong hands-on electrical troubleshooting skills, including experience working with all voltages up to 480 volts., • Ability to read, understand, and work from electrical wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and mechanical blueprints., • Previous hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial setting., • Experience working safely with hazardous chemicals, including knowledge of appropriate PPE and safe handling procedures., • Basic knowledge of PLCs, including exposure to Allen-Bradley and Siemens systems., • Ability to perform basic arithmetic skills to support measurements, calculations, and documentation., • Basic computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office for logging work and completing documentation., • Ability to speak, read, and write English to understand operating procedures and complete all job-related documentation., • Strong combined electrical and mechanical aptitude, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex electro-mechanical systems., • Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods (8+ hours with scheduled breaks), frequently bend and kneel, lift and carry up to 70 pounds, and push or pull up to 150 pounds., • Ability to climb ladders and step stools to access equipment as needed., • Visual acuity equivalent to 20/20 vision with or without correction to safely perform detailed maintenance tasks.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Licenses in areas such as forklift operation, plumbing, electrical work, or boiler operation are a strong plus., • White Boiler License is beneficial; if not already held, the company will sponsor and pay for obtaining it., • Experience and knowledge of HVAC and chiller systems in an industrial environment., • Background in related industries such as food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or chemical operations., • Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs and field service-style troubleshooting., • Familiarity with industrial controls and automation components in a manufacturing setting., • Ability to learn and implement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and other company-specific processes., • Comfort working in unionized environments and collaborating within a team-oriented maintenance department.Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a full-time, onsite role in a manufacturing facility that supports the automotive and medical sectors using aluminum and rubber production processes. The position is primarily for 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with an expectation of approximately 10 hours of overtime per week and occasional weekend work for repairs and shutdowns. Candidates will initially train on 1st shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) for approximately the first 60 days before moving to their regular shift. There are also 3rd shift operations, with a schedule of 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., including a 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. start on Mondays, and shift differentials apply for off-shifts. The role is part of a union, providing structured work rules and representation. The facility requires strict adherence to safety standards and PPE usage. Depending on the work area, employees must wear closed-toe shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection in high-noise zones, and other PPE as required. To maintain product quality and hygiene, certain areas require protective clothing such as company-provided uniforms, coveralls, frocks, hair nets, and beard covers. The work involves extended periods of standing, frequent bending and kneeling, lifting up to 70 pounds, pushing or pulling up to 150 pounds, and climbing ladders or step stools. The environment includes exposure to industrial equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, electrical systems up to 480 volts, HVAC and chiller equipment, and chemicals, all managed under established safety and quality procedures.
