POSITION SUMMARY This position supports the mission of Camp HBC Youth, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth through culturally responsive summer enrichment experiences that promote education, leadership, and personal growth. Under the supervision of the Camp Director, the Camp Counselor is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment where campers can learn, grow, and build meaningful relationships. Counselors serve as mentors, role models, and leaders while facilitating activities that foster teamwork, creativity, and confidence. QUALIFICATIONS • Must be at least 18 years of age, • Applicants must be currently enrolled in high school, hold a high school diploma or equivalent, or be a current college student or recent college graduate, • Experience working with youth in camps, schools, or similar settings preferred, • CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention certification (or willingness to obtain), • Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills, • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, • Passion for youth development, education, and community impact ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES All Camp Counselors are expected to: • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all campers at all times, • Supervise and engage a consistent group of campers daily, • Plan and implement age-appropriate, structured, and engaging activities, • Facilitate programs in areas such as:, • Arts & Creative Expression, • STEM & Academic Enrichment, • Physical Fitness & Recreation, • Character Development & Leadership, • Maintain accurate records (attendance, incident reports, sign-in/out logs), • Support transitions between activities and maintain group structure, • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding camper progress, • Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism and enthusiasm, • Collaborate with staff and support Activity Specialists and CITs, • Assist with camp setup, cleanup, and organization, • Attend all required trainings, meetings, and special events SAFETY & RISK MANAGEMENT • Maintain awareness of all campers and ensure proper supervision ratios, • Follow all safety protocols, emergency procedures, and health guidelines, • Report incidents, concerns, or hazards immediately to leadership, • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and care, • Support child abuse prevention practices and reporting expectations STAFF EXPECTATIONS & PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT • Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to actively engage, • Maintain a positive, energetic, and professional demeanor, • Model respectful communication and inclusive behavior, • Follow all organizational policies, including technology and confidentiality guidelines, • Build positive relationships with campers, families, and staff, • Represent Camp HBC Youth positively in all settings WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS • Ability to lead and participate in indoor and outdoor activities, • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and remain active for extended periods, • Ability to adapt to changing schedules and environments, • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy setting LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES • Inclusion, • Communication & Relationship Building, • Emotional Maturity, • Team Collaboration, • Youth Development & Mentorship ADDITIONAL DUTIES This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, or skills required.
