Job Summary: The Armed Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position protects the school community by preventing and responding to potential threats, monitoring school property, and enforcing school policies and procedures. The officer serves as both a visible security presence and a positive, approachable member of the school community, modeling professionalism, integrity, and a Christ-centered demeanor. Essential Functions • Provide a consistent armed security presence on school grounds during school hours, special events, and extracurricular activities., • Monitor entrances, exits, hallways, playgrounds, and other common areas to prevent unauthorized access or unsafe behavior., • Respond immediately and effectively to emergencies, threats, or safety concerns (e.g., active threat situations, fire alarms, medical incidents)., • Conduct regular patrols of the campus to identify, report, and address potential safety risks., • Assist with safety drills (lockdown, fire, evacuation) and help train staff and students on established safety procedures., • Collaborate with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency responders during crisis situations., • Enforce school rules and address violations in coordination with school administration., • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely written reports regarding incidents, observations, and safety concerns., • Build positive, trusting relationships with students, staff, and families to foster open communication and a secure school culture., • Handle sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and empathy appropriate to an elementary school environment., • Represent Hope Christian School and Jesus Christ in a professional, respectful, and Christ-honoring manner to the school community and the public.Requirements:, • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and purpose of the school, honoring Christ and cooperating fully with the Board and HCS Administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing school operations., • Prior law enforcement, military, or armed security experience required., • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field preferred., • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a commissioned law enforcement officer; retired law enforcement officers in good standing preferred., • Current New Mexico Level 3 Security Guard license or equivalent state certification preferred., • Demonstrated proficiency with all firearms issued and carried; must meet New Mexico Department of Public Safety firearms standards for commissioned officers and Hope Christian School armed security qualification standards., • CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification., • Strong communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills., • Ability to remain calm, focused, and effective in high-stress and emergency situations., • Demonstrated sound judgment, confidentiality, and discretion., • Physically able to respond quickly to emergency situations, including prolonged standing, walking, and patrolling., • Full-time position with hours aligned to the school schedule, including events and activities as needed., • Requires standing, walking, and patrolling for extended periods of time.
