Job Description Green Top Farms was founded by a farmer-turned-public-school-teacher who was troubled by the lack of fresh, nutritious foods for many New York families. For the last ten years we have built a high volume food service, catering and delivery business. Throughout that time we have remained deeply involved in working to provide better food resources and education for school children, food pantries, and the broader community. What You’ll Do: • Responsible for maintaining daily food service in a corporate office setting, including stocking pantries, plating foods, and replenishing chafer and serving dishes., • Responsible for maintaining a food-safe and sanitary environment for service that meets safe food handling guidelines., • Greet, assist, and communicate with guests, ensuring a welcoming environment., • Have a great understanding of each menu, and provide suggestions and alternatives to guests with dietary restrictions., • Having basic level knife handling to perform basic food preparation tasks, which include washing, peeling, and cutting fruit and vegetables, seasoning and slicing meats, and preparing sauces and salads., • Ability to read and prepare simple recipes such as waffle or pancake mixes, omelets, oatmeal etc., • Setting up and breaking down dining and buffet areas as per the Enterprise Dining Lead’s instructions. Ensuring all tableware and chafing dishes are properly cleaned and sanitized before each service/catering event., • Providing support when loading and unloading food, tableware, and catering supplies onto and off catering vehicles., • Appropriately storing clean chafing dishes, tableware, platters, and equipment after each service/catering attendant as well as dishwashing., • A New York City Food Handler's certificate/card holder (Preferred), • Ability to carry over 50 pounds and remain standing for long periods, • Outgoing and considerate personality with front and back of house experience in an corporate office catering, banquet, or commissary setting, • Exemplary communication skills., • Inherent problem solver that’s organized, punctual, and tech-savvy. Job Description Schedule: Sunday thru Thursday 8am-5pm About the Role The Temporary Kitchen Assistant plays a key role in supporting the preparation, cooking, and packing of meals for our Medically Tailored Meal Program. Working closely with our culinary staff and volunteers, the Kitchen Assistant follows strict food safety and sanitation protocols to ensure high-quality, nutritious meals are delivered to clients. This position requires a collaborative, fast-paced mindset, and a commitment to upholding our mission every day. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Assist Cooks, Bakers, and Chefs with preparation, cooking, baking, cooling, and storing of food., • Support meal packing and labeling operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with agency guidelines., • Help instruct and supervise volunteers in food handling, kitchen procedures, and pack-out projects., • Monitor food labeling, ensuring all items are marked and rotated according to DOH and agency standards., • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in all food preparation areas, in accordance with DOH food safety standards., • Support kitchen inventory, stock rotation, and assist with refrigerator and walk-in cooler organization., • Report any malfunctioning kitchen equipment to management and assist Porters with basic maintenance and cleaning tasks. You are energetic, dependable, and passionate about food. You work well under pressure and have a natural ability to support and lead volunteers. You are also detail-oriented and committed to maintaining a safe, efficient kitchen. Qualifications and Requirements • Minimum 2 years of experience in a high-volume kitchen (cooking, baking, or food handling), • Knowledge of basic culinary methods and kitchen equipment, • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, • Basic math skills (for measurements, inventory, etc.), • NYC Food Handler Certification (required), • Culinary school training or formal certification (preferred), • Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team, • Must be comfortable working in varying kitchen temperatures, including freezers and ovens, • May be exposed to outdoor conditions when transferring food between kitchen and other areas, • Must be able to tolerate loud environments and work while standing for several hours
