Job DescriptionEstimator - Career Opportunity in San Diego, CA Job Description • We are seeking a skilled Estimator to analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, MSC, and commercial vessels. Your expertise will be essential in coordinating, developing, compiling, and submitting detailed information required to provide a complete and comprehensive estimate of all labor, material, and subcontractor costs associated with various projects.Responsibilities, • Review and evaluate bid specifications and vessel drawings (blueprints)., • Conduct competitive pricing of materials., • Review and analyze subcontractor and vendor quotes to ensure compliance with schedule and specifications., • Communicate with production, purchasing, and vendors to verify costs., • Develop labor, material, and subcontractor price estimates based on customer information., • Prepare estimates for change orders., • Develop craft labor budgets for planning and scheduling work., • Analyze subcontractor quotes to determine the best alternatives and compare with in-house quotes to make make-or-buy decisions., • Work with production management to develop build strategies for repairs or construction., • Develop work packages for distribution to production., • Identify and schedule key and critical path work items., • Use historical data to establish standard costs and develop costs for new work., • Resolve ambiguities or inconsistencies in specifications or bid packages that could affect cost before contract finalization., • Apply knowledge of cost and pricing to produce final bids for management review.Essential Skills, • Expertise in estimation, Navy, NAVSEA, project management, and project scheduling., • Proficiency in using estimating software., • Strong cost analysis, cost estimate, and cost management skills.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • 3 years of overhaul, repair, alteration, and testing of Navy vessels., • 3–5 years of shipyard estimating experience preferred, but candidates from trades positions may be considered., • Familiarity with Navy NAVSEA standard items and other regulatory body standards., • Experience in deck plate management of ship repair on various types of Navy and commercial vessels is a plus., • Familiarity with estimating habitability projects is a plus., • 1 year of specialized experience in planning and managing multiple projects in a shipyard environment., • 2+ years of experience in administrative support, preferably in a ship repair, manufacturing, or industrial setting., • Experience with base/ship access procedures, especially in support of DoD or U.S. Navy work, strongly preferred., • Knowledge of production documentation processes, including CFRs and workforce time reporting., • Recent experience in project management, including financial reporting, oral and written communications, interpersonal relations, and managerial techniques., • High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); familiarity with Workday or other timekeeping software is a plus.Work Environment, • Work will be conducted at the shop and various yards and bases.
