You will perform approximately 50% proactive and 50% preventive maintenance on production equipment such as presses, molding machines, and trimmers, with about 20% of your time dedicated to utilities and facility systems. The position requires strong hands-on electrical troubleshooting skills, solid mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work safely around chemicals, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and high-voltage equipment on a 2nd shift schedule. Responsibilities • Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on manufacturing equipment, including presses, molding machines, trimmers, and related production machinery., • Conduct daily rounds at the start of each shift, including checking boilers and water systems, and documenting findings as required., • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including wiring, switches, relays, contactors, starters, AC and DC drives, and motors, working with voltages up to 480V., • Read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and mechanical blueprints to diagnose and resolve equipment issues., • Install, maintain, and repair electrical infrastructure such as conduit, outlets, breakers, transformers, and facility lighting., • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and replace hydraulic and pneumatic valves, cylinders, and related components as needed., • Rebuild mechanical components such as rack and pinion assemblies on presses to restore proper operation., • Replace gears, pulleys, and various belts on production machines, exhaust fans, and air conditioning units to minimize downtime., • Support utilities and facilities maintenance, including boilers, HVAC, chiller systems, and other plant support equipment., • Handle and work around hazardous chemicals safely, following proper procedures and using required personal protective equipment., • Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation related to inspections, testing, maintenance, installations, and repairs of machinery and equipment., • Collaborate with production and maintenance team members to prioritize work orders and support equipment reliability and uptime., • Train on 1st shift for approximately the first 60 days to become familiar with equipment, procedures, and safety practices before moving to 2nd shift., • Respond to breakdowns and participate in planned shutdowns, including occasional weekend work and overtime, to complete repairs and projects., • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and other company policies and procedures to ensure product quality and regulatory compliance., • Use basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office, to enter data, complete work orders, and communicate with team members., • Apply basic knowledge of PLC systems, including Allen-Bradley and Siemens, to assist with troubleshooting and equipment support. Skills • High school diploma or GED equivalent., • At least 5 years of related mechanical and electrical maintenance experience in a food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing environment., • Strong hands-on electrical troubleshooting skills, including experience working with voltages up to 480V., • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and mechanical blueprints., • Proven experience with hydraulics and pneumatics, including troubleshooting and repair of valves, cylinders, and related components., • Experience working safely with hazardous chemicals and appropriate personal protective equipment., • Basic knowledge of PLC systems, including Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms., • Strong electro-mechanical ability, with the capability to troubleshoot both mechanical and electrical issues on industrial equipment., • Ability to perform basic arithmetic and use basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications., • Ability to speak, read, and write English to understand operating procedures and complete documentation accurately., • Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods (8+ hours with scheduled breaks), frequently bend and kneel, lift and carry up to 70 pounds, and push or pull up to 150 pounds., • Ability to climb ladders and step stools as needed for maintenance tasks., • Vision sufficient to perform detailed mechanical and electrical work (20/20 with or without correction)., • Willingness and ability to work 2nd shift and to work overtime, including some weekends, as needed for repairs and shutdowns. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Previous experience in preventive and predictive maintenance and/or field service roles., • Experience in related industries such as food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or chemical operations., • Licenses or certifications in forklift operation, plumbing, electrical work, or boiler operation are a plus., • Experience and knowledge of HVAC and chiller systems., • White Boiler License is beneficial; the company will support obtaining this license if not already held., • Experience rebuilding rack and pinion systems, replacing gears, pulleys, belts, and maintaining exhaust fans and AC units., • Familiarity with industrial controls and electrical troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment., • Ability to learn and implement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and other quality-related procedures., • Comfort working in environments that may involve high noise levels, temperature variations, and chemical exposure, with appropriate PPE., • Union environment experience is helpful but not required. Work Environment This is a full-time role in a manufacturing facility that produces specialized aluminum and rubber products for automotive and medical applications. The primary opening is on 2nd shift, Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with initial training on 1st shift (approximately 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) for about 60 days. There is also a 3rd shift schedule (Monday through Friday, 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with an additional 4-hour period starting at 2:00 a.m. on Mondays) in the broader maintenance team. Overtime is common, with an average of about 10 hours per week and occasional weekend work for repairs and shutdowns. The role is part of a unionized workforce. The environment includes industrial equipment such as presses, molding machines, trimmers, boilers, HVAC and chiller systems, and various electrical and mechanical systems. Work may involve exposure to noise, moving machinery, and hazardous chemicals, with strict adherence to safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment. Required PPE may include closed-toe shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and other gear depending on the work area. In certain production areas, employees must wear protective clothing such as company-provided and maintained uniforms, coveralls, frocks, hair nets, and beard covers to ensure product quality and compliance with manufacturing standards. The position is physically demanding, requiring standing for extended periods, frequent bending and kneeling, lifting and carrying up to 70 pounds, and pushing or pulling up to 150 pounds. Climbing ladders and step stools is sometimes necessary to access equipment. Work is performed using a range of industrial tools and technologies, including electrical test equipment, hand and power tools, and computer systems for documentation and communication.
